    Bookbinding

Does anyone else practice this? Which method(s) do you use? Do you sew it or glue it?

How old are the books? And what type of thread are you using?

You actually need linen thread for those types of books. In fact you should never use all purpose thread (which is roughly a size 50) because it's too fine to hold together. In fact, it tangles up so easy because you're using too fine of thread. If you can't get a hold of linen thread embroidery floss is also suitable.

No problem, I'm not that experienced either. There's a book out by Dover about bookbinding that you can grab. It even shows you how to make some of the tools.

I think that's where I got my copy. Like I said it's a Dover publication so it's guaranteed to be cheap.

I actually think it can go on. I should probably take a few pictures of some of my projects. Then I can show people why the tools are necessary and what not to do lol

Yes, but it was with paperback books and used glue instead of sewing. I'll see if I have any of them to take pictures.

I ask because I'm wanting to print out some pre-1923 books, but I want them to at least *look* period correct...so I don't want to tote around some 3 ring binder or something

Ah, ok. The binding would be a bit different since you're printing off pages. How long are the books? Do you have the boards picked out for the cover?
