Omg this is so cool! I never knew this existed.
(Seriously, I've been saying this a lot lately. It's like I'm waking up or suddenly the blinders are off... Not sure which but I didn't even realize the blinders were on in the first place. Why isn't this more common knowledge?)

I use rock deodorant. It took about six weeks for my body to adjust (FYI: there is an adjustment period!) ...but I've been using it for at least five years now. I only have to buy deodorant once a year now. Although, I recently dropped mine and it shattered, and I might have to get a new one a little early...

You have to get it wet and roll it on...its clear, it lasts quite a while on a normal day.
Also, its not an antipersperant. In my experience, it won't keep you from sweating (some claim it does, but the Al in the rock is in a different form than the Al in a conventional antipersperant), just from being stinky (kills the bacteria). And you may need to reapply on a hot/active day...its not waterproof.
My children broke my last one, so I'm currently using Jason tea tree deo, but I like it. Some people can be allergic though. Also, I've read anecdotally that it can set off airport scanners (the rock itself, not your pits), and that the potassium alum (which is what the rock is made of) can eat into some surfaces if you don't put it away properly and it gets wet, and whoops...there goes the marble, etc.

I REALLY like the longevity idea of the rock. But I also really like not having sweaty armpits. Tea tree tends to irritate my skin. I used to have a tea tree shampoo and it would burn my scalp so bad that even after rinsing the poo out, my scalp would hurt for hours before finally calming down.

The thing to keep in mind is that its basically a giant rock of aluminum salts. I mean, here's its MSDS (http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9922860).
So, some people are all like "its natural, its great!" and others are all like "OMG, ur gonna get cancer or alzhiemers, its got ALUMINUM!" and really, its something inbetween. If you are allergic to Al, don't use it. If you become sensitized to it, stop using it, wash it off, and use a nice thick burn lotion on it, and don't use it again. If you have a boo boo and have open skin, maybe don't use it (it stings, its a salt).
Hubby can't use it, but I can.
And there are DIY recipes for deos too...some of them are quite nice. But tea tree is used in a lot of them, so if you are allergic to that, you might need to make some substitutions.

Someone attempted to move the deodorant posts into a separats topic and hit the wrong button. Well that or an admin is trolling you. I'm leaving it alone because I'm not entirely sure which posts were meant to move.
Based on the new title I'm going to say the antipirspirant-esque ones.
Well hey, it forced me to wake up a little bit. "What's this 238 page long thread on deoderant..."

476 pages. 238 is for less ambitious topics.

I remember the number being up there somewhere, before someone went through and did a massive purge and the page count went down to like... 3...
It's amazing how many thinky-thoughts people have on a daily basis... wait... maybe amazing isn't the right word.

I honestly don't use deodorant. I only use soap on particularly smelly areas and my hair. And I want to back off of shampooing my hair too but it just gets knarly greasy. But honestly, I don't feel like I smell all that often. My gf only uses an alcohol based perfume dope her pits. Shrug.

I have to use it, because I sweat like a pig. Even on non-hot days. Wish I didn't.
Living in Southern Cali and commuting to work on my bike? Oh hell no. I sweat it up. I also want to put deodorant on my under boobage.

I work on a wood fire grill 5 days out of the week and at least 3 of those days Gretta is over 500 degrees. To say I sweat is an understatement. I am the color of a cherry 10 mins into getting her rolling. Rios our Sautee cook does not wear deo, he says it irritates his skin and he doesn't like to cover up his natural scent. The irritation I can totally understand but he refuses to look for any other substitution and let me say when we are rocking out 300 plus covers and then getting hit in the face with that cause he wants a high five or a hug can almost take me to the ground. If you don't sweat that often and you don't smell do you Boo but please when you can clear a 15 foot radius maybe look into something?

If it's toasty enough I do put deodorant on underboobage. Mine are too big not too.

Found out I'm allergic to Tom's deodorant. Suck.
Had a similar reaction to arm and hammer gel deodorant. Red rashy inflammation that hurts. I could probably train my skin to get used to it because it didn't get so bad a couple of days ago when I tried again. But, while at Fred Meyer yesterday, in their natural/alternative section, I found the crystal thing you guys talked about before. I bought one to try.
Day 1 so far.
How long did it take you (those of you that use it) to get used to it? I'm pretty sensitive to odors, even my own... I'm willing to give it a week, or maybe two if I notice change in the first week.

I use the crystal thing. I switched from regular ol' Dove deodorant before. I would say it took me about six weeks to get adjusted to it - but it was also the height of summer working in the bush, so, take that with a grain of salt (hah!)
I'm so accustomed to it now though (six years later) that I don't even need to use deodorant sometimes now. In the winter, I just do nothing and I'm fine.

My dermatologist recommended Dove sensitive. You might want to try that.

Tried it already. It's even more useless than degree is, now. And degree used to work really well. It was when I stopped eating processed foods that my body chemistry seemed to change when the deodorant stopped working.

Day one... It worked pretty good for the most part. I got a little paranoid and put on a dab of regular deodorant when I got to school, at about 4:30pm so it lasted for most of the day without any notable incidents.
I'll be working on and with people in close proximity, at school, so I don't want to bring BO to the table (pun intended).

I'm sorry hon. Do you see a dermatologist? If not, maybe your regular doctor can recommend you one.

Baking soda and the juice from Aloe Vera? It has little scent but will clog the sweat glands. If you are prone to yeast infections that is not a good choice. You can substitute Corn starch but it has equal or more attractions to yeast. Wiping with Hydrogen Peroxide (3%) will kill the bacteria that cause odors but it would have to be done often enough to become a chore.
Also important to note is when you apply deodorant. I read a few articles a while back that said to put it on the night before. It keeps you from getting sweat stains and it soaks into your skin. I was a bit paranoid, but I found it does indeed work the whole day when I apply it at night. It's like I'm just non odorous under there. Weird.

I never had a problem with it. The big thing is to remember to reapply through out the day if you are sweating. Also, if I was feeling smelly, I kept a little essential oil spritzer for the pits in my purse--tea tree and lavender with a wee bit of bergamont in witch hazel. Just spray and reapply the rock thingy, and go.

I use Hydrogen Peroxide (10%) body wash. You might want to try DF's suggestion first then see if a more stronger percentage will help you.

That's a really good tip, thanks.
I've decided to give this rock salt thing a go as well. :)
