    Ogham

Anyone use it? Own it? Know it? Any info?

I found some good looking ones on eBay, made out of the 'right' woods and stuff. They are really pretty

    And now I'm curious.

I have never been across the way
Seen the desert and the birds
    You cut your hair short
Like a shush to an insult
    The world had been yelling
Since the day you were born
    Revolting with anger
While it smiled like it was cute
    That everything was shit.

Um...I've not really used them this way, but they can be used like runes, for divination.

I've only ever seen them carved on sticks, for some manner of divination.

I believe ogham or ogam (take your pick of transliteration - I tend to use the latter) is the alphabet, and ogamfews are the individual characters and symbols.

There were actually a number of ogams at one time, but the tree-ogam is the one that's used almost exclusively today for both divination and spellcasting.

I've just begun learning the tree ogam. Unfortunately, I'm just learning the symbol-set for now. I don't have actually have a set of ogamfews.

The tree-ogam is probably more similar to runes (at least the Elder Futhark, from which my experience comes) than any other symbol-set, but it's still different enough to be a viable system on its own.

I don't generally use Ogham for divination, but here's a website I rather like on the different trees, their associations, lore, etc...

I've not used ogham in any aspect of worship or divination myself but I have known a couple of people who did use ogham inscribed sticks.
But then anything can be used for diviniation (tyromancy anyone ? )

I've only ever used it as a written language.

Yeah that's what I've found. Here's the link:

I just think they are epically cool. I'm tempted to buy them, but I don't really know what I'd do with them.

Cheers I think I came across this one a few weeks ago, but it's good to be refreshed. I guess you just do what you'd do with just about any other divinatory tool, pull them out of a bag, or lay a spread..

Or write like an alphabet... I dunno, I feel I have all this already with runes, which I work with a lot, but these ogham thingies are still intruiging me....

I have plans to get each of the kiddo's names tattoo'd in a language of their origin, Sharkbait's name would be in ogham (even though its not exactly a correct match)

That is a cool idea! I want to get future childrens names tattooed on myself, but had no inspiration as to how, but I like

Thanks for all the great links - especially the one with the information about the trees. I've been reading the entry for each type of tree in The Meaning of Treesby Fred Hagender as I learn its ogamfew, but I need as many pictures as I can get. I'm starting to feel that I could really use a knowledge of kinds of trees in my spirit work, but it's a challenge to reliably identify them with my eyesight.
