Saw this guy on Youtube interesting discussion

I know the title is about a Viking temple, just his starting point but he talks in depth concerning all religions so it goes here and not in heathenry. This was interesting to me.

It is certainly an interesting theory to propose in regards to how humanity has changed in its views of spirituality may be linked to the conditions in which they live, and the ways that they experience nature. This would make sense in the theological positions of Shinto, as the Kami we revere are intrinsically tied to those things in the world which bring us to feel awe, but I do wonder about non-animist and non-monist religions of the world, and whether they are being overlooked in this argument. Perhaps there are other factors which are not being taken into consideration?

That being said, I would never say that the spiritual world-view of the people is enough to transition them into a 'golden age', and I most certainly would not go as far as to say that we are living, or even approaching an intellectual 'golden age'. In truth, we are not much different from our position 2300 years ago. To keep from going into a long ramble, the major difference lies in the technology we use to do the same things we did over two millennium ago. :=S:

In addition, we must ask ourselves if all the changes we have wrought have been universally positive. There have been many 'golden ages' in the past which were not in our eyes today. Instead of thinking of it as some sort of flawless golden age, we have to recognise that with the replacement of any social, religious, political order we inherit another set of problems and issues that are just as bad as the previous order, and many times the same issues arise that existed in the previous order. Without going into detail, there are already some major disadvantages growing in this 'new order' which make it a less pleasant place to live, and will probably be overturned by the next 'golden age'. -_-

With all that said and done, congratulations to Iceland, and I would love to visit the Temple during one of the blots. Hope I didn't come across as harsh or condescending, but he touched a little bit of a nerve with me. Overall it is an interesting theory. :^^:
