I'm just starting out on my journey again after a long break, and would love to try my hand at getting to know Odin better, but I'm a bit reluctant. I've heard he's difficult to get to know, and pretty severe at times. One person who has had experience with him told me he will do for you what is best, even if you don't want it, and will lie to get what he wants. NOT saying I believe that, it very well could be the way the situation was interpreted by that person. I was hoping from some insight into a relationship with Odin. Thank you!

Re: Odin
I can't speak about relations with Odin. I neither have nor particularly want one. Going by is various appearances in lore however, when Odin decides that something really needs to happen, he is ready willing and able to do some disturbing things to get the job done.
Rindr was a victim of Odin's willingness to do some f-ed up things to get the job done.Life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."
John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper
"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."
Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

If you wish to work in the pantheon you will encounter him. I tend to look at him as Wodan, the shaman and good of violent wind. I watch my step and mind my manners so to speak. I got a really good bottle of Aquavit and give him a shot every Tuesday night after sundown for Woden's day. It's a place to start.
