Users of Windows 10 have found out an unsettling thing: Windows 10 has built-in software to gather your personal data and feed you ads. It's an opt-in service that most people unwilling adhere to during installation but there is a way around it.

Really Microsoft,can't we get a break from the intrusive stuff.

Also now solitaire is now adware...you can opt out for a FEE!

That's good to know! I just bookmarked that link because it has further links on how to get rid of that bit. I reserved my copy of 10, and am waiting for the ok to start the download. So Once I do, I'll be sure to go through that step by step to remove that crap. It says the surefire way is to remove your Microsoft account from it, but you lose things like the access to the Store and to OneDrive, which is a cloud storage. I doubt I'd use either so that doesn't bother me in the least.

And this is why I haven't nor will I download 10. My comp is just fine as it is. When it dies and I get a new one, then there you go. But for now no thanks.

I will predict you will see tons of "Fix your windows" and ,more than a few that are also crap ware and saying they are good. And a few righteous good "Fix" programs,both commercial and open source and clean..

Personally, I never knew why it was "necesary" to have the latest operating system out there. Sure, it has more gadgets and maybe some cutting-edge technology that the learned can use... But for me, it was not until my XP began to really become useless that I decided to upgrade. And even then, I kept it for almost ten years. I am probably going to keep Windows 7 for more, unless computers become holographic or something and I cannot get around that.

I pretty much expect either this or the opposite (Apple's you can only use our crud on our platform and everything has to be bought through us) model.

I don't really care all that much. When I need a new comp, it will have 10, I'm sure. S'ok...my phone and my kindle already so this...I just ignore the ads.

Things like this will no doubt hamper people upgrading and with good reason...Quickly Microsoft,back to the labs....and ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!the Monster is ALIVE!!!!!

I turned off automatic updates in 8.1 because one security update stopped me from being able to VPN in to my mainframes at work. hnoes: You know, the ones I'm system administrator of!? I was furious. :rage: Gods know what other evil and dastardly machinations and plots Microsoft has cooked up. Not taking any chances.

Both my computers are currently running Windows 7. The older of the two has major issues every time there's an update. For a few days after the update, it only gives me a black screen with a cursor rather than even making it to the Windows start up screen, IF it even sends any sort of signal to the monitor so I can see what's going on. I leave it alone for a couple of days, and then somehow it magically will work, run it's recovery stuff, and will be fine until the next update. Talk about a ghost in the machine.
