Re: Robots
Major strides are being made on the forefront of A.I. sciences (many being over in Asia) and are already pretty impressive if you'd take the time to do the research.

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

Re: Robots
Efficency would have to be determined on each individual robot. Something nobody is capable of saying.
Effective? Well I don't know about you guys but I don't come across much AI outside of computer games, not knowingly anyway. So the answer is either: Who knows or yes, they're so effective (that is, flawlessly natural), that we don't even notice them.
Regarding experimental AI, look up anything by Boston Dynamics. Scary, almost.I'm not one to ever pray for mercy
Or to wish on pennies in the fountain or the shrine

And I thought of you only

Re: Robots
I have no idea if AI is effective, but the study is interesting. Honda has made amazing progress with AI in Japan. I have been out of the loop (I haven't been keeping myself up to date as much as I used to), but there seems to be a major rise in AI efficiency all around the world. And what we see on the news and in public media only scratches the surface of what is evolving in AI. Nanobot technology is an amazing AI technology that is being researched for everything from medicine to war, and even agriculture. I give it another 100 or so years to see if AI is really going to make major changes in our world. Then again, if you follow the logic of Ray Kurzweil, technology grows at an exponential rate, so AI can even be making major changes for private and public use in the next 20-30 years.

Re: Robots
So far automation has always generated new jobs. I think that mass production could be automated but there will always be a place for custom and individual pieces that can't be mass produced. The has to be a minimum number of orders before automation is profitable. You still need technicians to repair and modify the robots for particular jobs. You need software technicians to program them and others to install them. The Dragon sees infinity and those it touches are forced to feel the reality of it.
