I only went to city collage...and only for a short while, but I freaking pay attention to things, and even while high I still managed to keep up when I was much younger.
MAGIC is MAGIC,black OR white or even blood RED
all i ever wanted was a normal life and love.

Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.
And I'm sure if you took polls back then people would look just as stupid as they do today.
Scott became famous for freezing to death in Antartica.
Columbus made history thinking some island was India.
General Custer's a national hero for not knowing when to run.
All these men are famous, and they're also very dumb.
History is made by stupid people.
Clever people wouldn't even try.
If you wanna place in the history books,
Then do something dumb before you die.
Nobility are famous for no reason.
Marie Antoinette enjoyed her cake.
She cause a Revolution when she would not share.
And her husband lost his head for that mistake.
The Hindenberg was a giant zeppelin.
Her makers made a minor oversight.
Before they filled it up with explosive gas
They should have fixed the no smoking light.
'Cause!
History is made by stupid people.
Clever people wouldn't even try.
If you wanna place in the history books,
Then do something dumb before you die.
Tally-Ho! Tally-Ho!
Our king and country's honor we will save.
Tally-Ho! Tally-Ho!
We're marching into history and the grave.
So, if your son or daughter seem too lazy,
Sitting there watching MAD T.V.
Just remember you should be quite grateful
At least they're not making history.
Ahhh!
History is made by stupid people.

I think that one of the biggest problems in this country is apathy toward knowing our history. I went to college in 2000 and since I am a history buff I paid attention to the details. Other people who were in many of my classes were only there to fulfill requirements. They of course learned very little. I also took Political Science from a fantastic Constitutional Scholar and I learned a great deal that was not taught in high school. Again those who are apathetic did not do well. Today, apathy continues to grow and too many young people deign to not learn more about our country.

I'm positive I lost brain cells trying to read this. I felt them die off.
As for the OP, I'm pretty sure I learned about that stuff in high school. Definitely not in college. But I don't have any politically oriented classes these days. It wasn't relevant in electronics and isn't in massage therapy, either.

LOL - in addition to killing brain cells, tomorrow in Journalism I will be explaining the American court system, in order to explain Supreme Court decisions regarding free speech in high school newspapers.
Judge Judy will not be mentioned, though.

I noticed this in the opinion polls my congressional representatives send on issues they want the "opinion" of their constituents on. The potential responses are worded in such a way that you can't possibly disagree with his position, because the alternative choices are so stereotyped and unreasonable fantasies of what his party thinks other people think...no room for nuance, no room for an alternative position...not even any way to AGREE with him for different reasons.\
They don't want opinions, they want confirmation of their opinion.
Yes - I used to get "surveys" from the NRA that were blatantly horrendous like that. It's one reason why I hate the NRA.
