4chan, You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy
Re: 4chan, You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy
4chan abused her, not Anonymous, as far as I am aware. Sure, they're a bunch of kids too, but they seem to have higher motives. Sometimes they aim poorly, and look at the wrong things, but more often than not, Anonymous are actually trying to do something useful. 4chan are genuinely a waste of space.
I'm not one to ever pray for mercy
Or to wish on pennies in the fountain or the shrine
But that day you know I left my money
And I thought of you only
All that copper glowing fine

I'm been to 4chan at one point and it's crazy as heck.

More than half the boards there are relatively safe for work (marked as such, even!) and relatively tame most of the time. There's /b/, /pol/, and their ilk, as well as the porn boards, which are crazy but they are safely cordoned off in the NSFW area.
The other boards are really only crazy when there's a lapse in moderation or in exceptional circumstances. /mlp/ and /v/ being hit the worst by lack of moderation, IMHO.
Basically, if you are in the SFW boards, you actually have to dig around for the crazy most of the time.
Trust is knowing someone or something well enough to have a good idea of their motivations and character, for good or for ill. People often say trust when they mean faith.
That's still no excuse for Jessi Slaughter acting like a brat on Youtube. Those Anon deserve a medal for trolling.
Choose your words very carefully from now on. Abusive trolling is not the kind of behavior we will let slide here and I don't really know if I even want you on our forum with an attitude like this.

I can imagine if 4chan members would join this forum. It would be the end of civilization as we know it.
Not really, 4chan is full of reasonable people who can follow rules and get along just fine in more structured settings. It's the lack of moderation, anonymity, and board culture that leads to the behavior you see there.
For a lot of people, it's an outlet for the things we keep bottled up. A space where you can let it all hang out and show sides of yourself you really can't anywhere else. Where there is no real distinction between extremism and irony, the radical and the contrarian. Where there is both hostility and support for any and all ideas, big and small.
That attitude doesn't carry over very well into more structured areas. Ideas bred in that space might, but the behaviors definitely do not. Like all things, you adapt or you die.
That's the equivalent of dropping a dozen sharks in the streets of New York and expecting them to be effective predators. They might hurt a few people by flopping around, but the worst they can possibly do is make the place smell bad after a while.

So we've managed to venture far from the topic of turning an AI into a Nazi and into a demonstration of faulty ethics that I find moderately disturbing. As OP, I think my thread has derailed past the point that I care to try and save it. As Admin, I'm shutting it down. Have a nice day, move along.
Life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."
John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper
"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."
