The Great Total Eclipse of 2024 (or The End Of The World As We Know It)

So, we had planned to drive to eastern Oklahoma to view the eclipse (we have friends who live in the 99% path), however, with all the dire warnings, we've decided to just hunker down at home. Anyone else in or near the eclipse path?

For the Yule was upon them, the Yule; and they quaffed from the skulls of the slain,
And shouted loud oaths in hoarse wit, and long quaffing swore laughing again.

We're on the fringes so don't know how much we will actually get. What intrigues me though is the conspiracy theorist that think it's going to cause a mass sacrifice of people to some unknown purpose.

Yeah, that's kinda bizarre, but the reality is that tens of thousands of people are going to flock as close to the totality zone as possible, clogging hiways and byways, campgrounds and rest stops, restaurants and gas stations and convenience stores. Hotels and motels in and near the path have been booked for at least a year (or more) ahead. It's gonna be pretty chaotic.

Very True. I think we're supposed to be at 98.5 percent for coverage and some schools in our area are releasing early due to the event.

I'm way out on the fringes. Supposed to be 20% or something. And cloudy. But I'll giv'er a peek and see if I can see anything still.

On April 8th, the Moon covered the Sun, marking the last total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States until 2044. Consult the interactive to see how the phenomenon appeared.

I'm in the path of totality and am very hopeful for clear skies! My little town is going bonkers. The Budweiser Clydesdales were here for a few days. Friday night 38 Special and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils played at our Civic Center. There are all sorts of parades, fireworks, etc., etc. going on.Tomorrow for the main event I'll be at a friend's small farm out in the country where no streetlights will come on as it gets dark.

I'm also in the low 20% range and don't expect much craziness here. However, I lived in the 99% pathway for the 2017 solar eclipse and it was nuts everywhere. Glad I got to work from home that day.

50 couples in Russellville, Arkansas got married during totality of the eclipse...
