Day four for me too, I just rinsed it in water today, since it's my day off.  Still drying right now, but so far so good.  I'm probably going to do baking soda and lemon juice tomorrow, and take another picture.

Foxfire, one thing that's really helping me is to brush my hair, a lot, a couple of times a day.  It's really helping my hair's natural oils get all the way down the hair shaft, instead of sticking around at the scalp and getting funky.

I've been watching this thread to see what happens etc. I do have another question...
Don't you like to just shampoo your hair with smell good stuff? I mean or is this just an experiment? Because I enjoy shampooing my hair with 99 cents coconut scented shampoo. I also actually enjoy washing my hair. Just curious

I do but one of those pages mentioned adding a little bit of essential oil to the wash, or making one out of some kind of rose infusion... so you CAN make it smell good, I LOVE shower smells and will probably  be doing this because yes I miss it.

My boyfriend brought that 99cent coconut suave bottle up from the states when he visited last and I loved it Cheesy

yes...and yes, its just an experiment at this point...

I mean, if I figure something out that works well and that I like, I will probably stick with it...

I already use essential oils in just about everything, which smell a helluva lot better than any commercial product I have come across yet (with the exception of bath and body work's japanese cherry blossom body spritz...I love that), so to use it in my hair isn't that much of a biggie...

I DO miss the foamy lathery bit...but my head actually FEELS more happy now...and that is after a week of no 'poo...so we shall see...

Straw feeling means you are using way too much harsh shampoo. Try the Vo5 ones. Only use a little bit in your hands and put it to your scalp. And not every day. See I am not washing my hair. I am washing my scalp. Ever tried just using water to wash your skin on your body? Get out and towel dry. You will rub all this nasty scum that has not been removed. Same with the scalp. I sweat every day. I need to wash my scalp.

I had the same straw-hair problem, I found that combo shampoo and conditioner helped a lot.

Ok, ladies.  I caved today.  I now know I can do a week, but after that it's just...really, really bad, even with a baking soda/vinegar rinse.  Since I have a job that keeps me out in public, I just couldn't go any farther with it.

The good news, though, is that I've learned how to take much, much better care of my hair.  I'm going to see if I can't stay at once per week with the shampoo.

Since I cannot fully participate in this thread, this is what I did today...

As per Gesh's suggestion, I 'pooed my SCALP, not ALL of my hair. I used a lemon juice rinse and I conditioned my ends because they're horrible right now. We'll see how this goes.

I have approximate answers, and possible beliefs, and different degrees of certainty about different things, but I’m not absolutely sure of anything, and in many things I don’t know anything about, such as whether it means anything to ask why we’re here, and what the question might mean. I might think about a little, but if I can’t figure it out, then I go to something else. But I don’t have to know an answer. I don’t feel frightened by not knowing things, by being lost in a mysterious universe without having any purpose, which is the way it really is, as far as I can tell, possibly. It doesn’t frighten me.

Nice!  Yeah, I want to keep up with what I was doing, too.  Up until the last 24 hours or so my hair was doing really, really well.

I caved too.  I used a shampoo that I remember never made me feel quite clean, only on the scalp, and conditioner on just the tips.  I think it set me back a couple days but I felt soooooo gross when I woke up I couldn't help it.  Going back to bs/vinegar tomorrow.

I'm doing ok.  I had to find the right herbs for my hair, which took a bit.  In the meantime, my hair did look greasy.  After the herbal rinse, though, I let it air dry then spray vinegar-water in it.  So far, I haven't had the massive knots like I do, which I consider a great indication.

oy...so I am on day 10 or 11...

and I have not caved...and actually, I have found that if I tea tree/peppermint oil my head before showering every couple days, and then baking soda my head and hair really well doing the scratchy scalp massage thing then do the ACV rinse while the baking soda is still in my hair (its fizzy!!!) and THEN rinse with water, it is EXCELLENT

...and actually better than shampoo...

I bet she's making one of those volcanos....

My hair is happier even with the small change to not-killing-hair-with-shampoo. eeee.

^ lol I think of those volcanoes every time.  I ask because I took the idea from one site, to mix some baking soda with water to make a paste, and am curious what others are doing with it.  Especially if it makes your head fizz up!

I've had some good luck with making a stiff baking soda/water paste, and then pouring vinegar over it once it was in my hair.  It foams all up for a couple of minutes and can be moved around like shampoo.  I wonder if Thal's doing something similar...
