    So I was talking with a local friend. I like her a lot, but she shocked me. She said "Psychologists are all nuts and they go into that field because there's something wrong with them." She was not kidding around or anything. OK so....she doesn't know that my BFF is a counselor, and Psych was one of my majors. (Whether or not I'm nuts is unrelated, wise guys! Ha!)

      I would say it comes from people not recognizing them as actual medical professionals.I have been with counselors and shrinks over the years,and yes a very few are a bit weird ,but that is the exception rather than the rule. It is also a bit like hypnosis being thought of as a parlor trick.

        If your deal with other peoples problems day in and day out you do become a little crazy yourself. All of the professionals that I know see other professionals to help them stay "normal". When you are a counselor it becomes an "automatic" action whenever anyone comes to you for help. My wife helped me overcome that by telling me that she needed to talk to her husband and not the counselor. When she wants a counselor she goes to someone else. It is never a good idea for a spouse to attempt to counsel the other spouse.

          We had a con for the kids in our church this weekend (UU). It was a lot of fun. Buuuut.... one kid decided to come with strep throat. He was on his last day of antibiotics and should have been safe. But still. First night, his throat started to swell shut. He couldn't swallow, couldn't hardly breathe, etc. He's 18. Told us not to call an ambulance. So I drove him to the ER. I had stayed up to 2 am because we have to have 2 adults awake for just this sort of thing. I had just laid down. I didn't get to sleep until about 4:30. And that's only because his escort was with him from home. I had to be up at 6:30 because I was the adult in charge of the kitchen all weekend. I'm still not entirely caught up on sleep. (Also, the kid got sent home the next day. We couldn't be sure it wasn't another flair up of strep. It could have possibly been a reaction to meds, but we couldn't chance it. He was very unhappy and spent over an hour arguing that he should be able to stay. As this is his senior year, this is likely his last con. I feel bad for him but... couldn't put the other kids at risk.) Ugh.

              That is so funny. I'm going to school for psychology and my math teacher said the exact same thing. That's actually pretty common.

                          So we get a call tonight from our ex-daughter-in-law (EDIL #1) telling us our other ex-daughter-in-law (EDIL #2) has MRSA and is being treated for it along with the open sores and such. She's had it for at least a month now probably longer. Yet she elected not to tell my wife about it at their visitation so now the wife and our three grandchildren have been exposed. The Family Preservation representative that attends the visitations has also been exposed. Then add that she wasn't even going to tell us so we could have the grandchildren tested and keep an eye out. Just one more item in a grocery bag full of issues we've had with her since the divorce.

                          Ironic the one ex-daughter-in-law we are close to and still have a good relationship with. Yet EDIL #2 even exposed EDIL #1 to it as well as her son so they also have to be tested and watched now. Sad EDIL #1 was married to our youngest son and EDIL #2 was married to our eldest son and they just happen to have been friends prior to the marriages.

                          Yep so now the bs starts yet again as we will become responsible for their welfare and medical and have to find out if we need to warn medical, their schools, their friends, etc that they were exposed while their mother was in a contagious period. For a few months now she's been coughing, wheezing and basically spitting all over them at the visitations and saying it was allergies, but had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks getting IV's and the hospital discovered at that time she had MRSA.

                          And people wonder why we wish we could get her completely out of their lives....
