    attacks on Paris

Live coverage as dozens of people are killed in multiple attacks around Paris and France declares a state of emergency, closing its borders.

So... the world can be a scary place. Today is one of those days. Last I heard was about 100 dead after a hostage situation. I'm praying they've overestimated that number vastly.

The number has been going up for the past hour. First it was 26, then at least 40, now at least 100.

In this case Facebook is great, I have a few friends there who've all checked in as 'ok'. I guess I find it more scary than the last couple of attacks because it seems like very organized slaughter.

I also just heard that it will be expected that there may be several heavily armed "Hercules" teams in many major US cities tomorrow as a result.

I am a bit worried about Sean, because the concert was a death metal group..so he might have been at the concert.

And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

Can't say if it's what Corbin was going for but what came next was less than friendly IIRC. It's been a while since I read Genesis.
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

                        Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Yes. Wisdom is scattered in the wind, and no man is able to assemble it.

We all know right from wrong, but we kill over irrelevant details. The baby is always flushed with the bath water.

So foolish, so painful is this, the human condition.

Yeah, not super friendly. I can see the draw to the Old Testament, as to me it seems that God was much more decisive and up front about what whe was going to do and how he wanted things.

Someone once said (I wish I could remember the quote off the top of my head) that we, humans, are capable of more wondrous acts of love and charity than can be found in the Heavens, but at the same time are capable of such acts of depravity and horror to make those of the Hells pale in comparison.
