I regret reading something I just read. I'd love to be able to unsee things!

What was one thing that you were taught incorrectly at first and had to relearn later?

Cut power to any machine that may have evidence on it/ Don't cut power to machines with evidence/ cut power to machines with evidence/ don't....

This one isn't so much a, "A is wrong, do B" as "nobody can make up their f-ing mind!!!" so I have to pick whichever procedure is in vogue with a given set of instructors/books/testing authorities at the time
"It is not simply enough to know the light…a Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force…in himself and in the universe."
    ―Thon

"When to the Force you truly give yourself, all you do expresses the truth of who you are,"

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

    What does QDJ mean?
"Turn, and look in the mirror. What do you see?" Her own brown eyes stared back at her until she was nothing but a blur.

"I see you. Red lipstick spread perfectly over your lush mouth, brown eyes that hold centuries upon centuries of secrets. A face made to entice even the most celibate of men and women alike. A red dress that sways and moves with your body, making you a temptation like no other."

There's a basic grammar guide I used when I was a beginner at Japanese, that was written by an English professor of linguistics. It was full of mistakes and she'd misunderstood some of the grammar. I trusted it though, so would use that incorrect grammar myself. It wasn't until I'd taken a 4-5 year break and had to refresh myself on the basics again (using a series of textbooks written by native speaking teachers*) that I was able to pick up on the false information and correct it.

There's just one that I still use by accident despite knowing it's wrong and that is using '~tagaru' to mean to really want to do something. Its real use is to describe what a third party wants to do, and I'll use it in that way, but just now and then I want to emphasise how badly I want to do something and this incorrect phrase will slip out before I can stop it!

*Even so, I used a word from those textbooks in a conversation last Tuesday night and was told no one actually uses that word. So I guess no textbook is infallible.
夕方に急なにわか雨は「夕立」と呼ばれるなら、なぜ朝ににわか雨は「朝立ち」と呼ばれないの? ^^If a sudden rain shower in the evening is referred to as an 'evening stand', then why isn't a shower in the morning called 'morning stand'?

Nutrition. It wasn't intentionally wrong, but my mother used to make those frozen carrots & peas where the carrots are little squares that taste like cardboard, and use margarine instead of butter, etc.
