    It was interesting... but some of it was a bit sloppy, e.g. 'Early European populations possessed more Neanderthal ancestry than present-day people, consistent with the idea that much of the DNA we inherited from the Neanderthals had harmful effects.'
    No, not necessarily. There could have been so many other reasons too.

      No, not necessarily. There could have been so many other reasons too.
      I agree it could, though if appearances were one cause of Neanderthals' decline, one could say that's technically a harmful effect.
