Am I surprised that this happened,NO. Problem is they tag on crap like this a LOT. A simple bill gets crap added that may actually make the original intention of the bill null and void.

Yes...

Old trick. Take a fat bill and add pork (special interest aditions).

A bill running nearly 2000 pages isn't even read by most of the people who will vote for/against it (they'll read a synopsis, assuming they do even THAT much of their job). Perfect place to hide your junk.

I want a bill that makes religious groups(churchs etc) have to pay taxes because it used to allow them not to because all the money mainly went to charity,not to build "Crystal cathedrals"

As a follow up,and really GOP,you really work to offend almost everyone.

The House erupted in chaos Thursday morning with Democrats crying foul after Republicans hastily convinced a few of their own to switch their votes and narrowly block an amendment intended to protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from discrimination.


Makes me wonder if the GOP are trying to lose by pissing off everyone...

There's your problem. It should be protecting everyone from discrimination. No one would accept it if republicans wanted to pass a bill to protect white people from carjackings. Because they would recognize it as fundamentally bigoted and unfair, as well as a violation of equal protection.

They can just as easily fire someone for being straight, or for any other arbitrary or stupid reason. You have a problem with that then you either make it so that you have to justify firing someone, or you leave it alone and let people decide whether they want to do support a business that discriminates.

Since we are supposed to have equal protection under the law is it wrong to pass bills that offer specific protections to sub-classes of the population? Shouldn't we all have the same protections? I suppose it is not wrong to enumerate protections as long as they are applied to all equally.

Think on this,if a company fired a person because they were Black..and for no other reason..or perhaps for being Irish,or French or even for being to tall,or to short,or for being a bigot or for not being a bigot

For clarity - anti-discrimination laws are written to protect against discrimination based on race, religion, gender/gender preference, body morphology, handicaps.

They are not written to protect gays, lesbians, transgender folks, Muslims, Christians, Pagans, etc., etc.

They are written to protect every single person. The idea that they are written specifically to protect some singled out group or another is BS propaganda.

And the problem comes about when a company says "You did not specifically say we can not discriminate against a "Fag" you only said "Gay"..cause the a**hats are just that stupid..
