Congressional Democratic leaders struck a deal with President Donald Trump on Wednesday to pass a clean debt-ceiling hike and fund the government until mid-December, as well as approve the first installment of emergency relief after Hurricane Harvey.

The deal, made over the wishes of GOP leadership, will delay to the end of the year the major budgetary battles that had been expected to occupy lawmakers for most of September.


The GOP can't even trust him to go with them.

Sure, he's back a Breitbart, and claiming to be unchained, but he's demonstrated that even 50000mg of Viagra and a seat in the White House can't make him potent.

This is troubling information. Since this is a pagan forum, I will explain what seems (to me) to be obvious...

Pagans should be very disturbed by this. Why? It's about Muslims and atheists...

In America, we have long been able to rely on two things to bring the famous "arc of justice" increasingly in line with the dream embodied in the Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men (and women now) are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Granted, we haven't always been good at these things, but the overall arc of justice has been bending that way for over 200 years.

Today, that arc is being twisted out of alignment.

The two things America could rely on have been the leaders of this country's faith in our Constitution, and the separation of powers of the three branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial) and the unofficial branch - the press - to step in when our leaders try to circumvent the Constitution.

Today, in America, we have a leader who is either wholly ignorant of the Constitution, or who doesn't give a donkey's dump about it. This "leader" is playing to those who also are either wholly ignorant, or don't give a D's dump about it.

That same leader has been actively working to unseperate the three branches of government and unite them under his own despotic authority, and to destroy the credibility of the press, allowing him to get away with "shooting somebody on Fifth Avenue."

What you may have missed (but how could you?) is that, if this wannabe dictator can turn Muslims and atheists into outcasts in America, the same techniques can be used on ANY group (such as, for instance, pagans).

The lists of "10 Commandments" that some people claim is the foundation of this countries legal system begins with these four:

1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall not make idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Monuments of the 10 Commandments are going up at courthouses in many communities. In a country where enough people are ignorant of the U.S. Constitution, and we have leaders who are willing to ignore that Constitution, pagans, just like everybody else who isn't a particular type of Christian, ought to become politically knowledgeable, if not downright politically active.

If they don't, they deserve country they end up with.

^^^ There is a level of ignorance in this country that many folks never see. Last year, I was at a family gathering (not my family, but a large family I'm friends with) and was saying something about how people learn about one another, and how I learned as a child that Jewish people celebrate the Sabbath on Saturday. Grown adults were "correcting" me and saying I must mean Seventh Day Adventists, because they observe on Saturday. I agreed that they do, and re-stated that Jews do, also. These people looked at me like I was a Martian.

Point being that when people don't know about something, they make up their own ideas, and often it's from those that prejudice springs. I don't think Christianity can get along with itself well enough to really take over - I knew a girl in college whose parents didn't like her bf because he was a different kind of Baptist then they were - the infighting alone will destroy any sense of unity.

This has bothered me for a long time,and when I mention my concerns to friends,most of the time I hear from them,"It could never happen here". There is a belief that no one can change things for the worse,but as you point out,it can happen here,and truth be told it HAS happened here in the past. Peoples rights being abused when the country is under duress. Even when the country wasn't under duress. The Tuskegee medical scandal,the assault on the rights of minorities, the attempt to limit voting rights of minorities,
The crazy effects of that "Satanic panic" in our recent past. We don't have a really good record over the years when it comes to following the constitution concerning ALL peoples rights. So truly it can,and did happen here before.

LOL - 300 years of Christian vs Christian religious wars raging across Europe might challenge your optimism. The theory is: first, make sure everybody is Christian, then fight to the death about which "Christian" is correct.

It isn't just Christians, by the way, it is any group that believes they have a mission from God that supersedes law or decency, and obtains the power to carry out that mission using law and abandoning decency.
