    Garden Sharing Thread

Show off those flowers and footage, the veg and variegation, and anything else you've got growing. High summer and I'm lamenting my small shared garden and fantasizing about growing pumpkins and parsnips in a place all my own. Help me live vicariously through others and share your garden here.

Yes! That's a great idea! I want to show off my water gardens, and veggies!

Umma takin' pics tomorrow after I fix the lawnmower!

    Ummm...

Seems it took longer than I figured to fix the mower...

    Anyways, here are some pics:

This is my normal water garden. This year, in addition to these, I added this stock tank so I would have more play space.

    IMG_20210724_153702.jpg
Overview - tank, some fancy striped grass in pots on either side, fig trees and devil's trumpet tree in the background.

A young fig on the fig tree.

Looking down. The big water lily pads on the right are Sacred Egyptian Lotus (actually, despite the name, it is a water lily). No flowers yet, but there is a bud still deep underwater. It should be up & open in about three days.

On the left is a hardy water lily. It has a bud that just broke the surface today:

Corkscrew rush and water hyacinth. The hyacinth looks bad because the neighbor's dog thought it was a chew toy. They'll recover, though.

    More to come...

    More is here.

    IMG_20210724_154017.jpg
This is the veggie garden. It looks badly overgrown, and it is. I'm trying to get raised beds going, but lumber prices shot through the roof. Now I'm using junk (old tires) as planting beds. Sort of going for the Mad Max post-porkylips gardening ethos.

The non raised ground was originally covered by landscaping fabric to hold down the weeds, but the neighbor's dog shredded it. Oh well!

Zucchini on the left, cayenne pepper on the right.

    IMG_20210724_154026.jpg
Right to left: summer squash, sugar snap peas on a Blair Witch style stick trellis, and low to the ground, sugar baby watermelons. I also have a bunch of tomatoes in tires...

Because of the legal iffyness of the plant I checked with the powers and principalities that rule our conversations before posting these pics (please don't get weird. MJ is legal, taxed, and regulated where I live. Michigan allows me to grow 12 plants for personal use and I follow all relevant laws scrupulously).

    My boo garden:
    IMG_20210724_154100.jpg

The auto flowers are in full bloom:
    IMG_20210724_154125.jpg

The regular fem plants (Northern Lights and White Widow) were about 3.5 feet high, but I've tied them over in order to get more up-growing branches - they produce the most bud!

That garden looks fantastic Corbin! The overgrown look gives it some rustic charm though. The water garden is a great idea. I've been wanting to get some going myself, but I don't have quite enough space. Do the water gardens attract lots of wildlife?

Funny about the MJ though. I don't generally partake, but a friend knows I'm big into plants generally so she asked for my help to learn some gardening basics. It's interesting what can bring people together. Now she and her girlfriend are planning vegetable and ornamental gardens for their yard too.

Actually, if you want to try a small water garden, there are miniature water lilies that can grow in a bowl. If you want to try this, get your plants from a specialist pond supplier (I like https://www.tricker.com/. Never buy seeds from eBay, Amazon, etsy, or anyone else selling seeds. The great Chinese seed scam is one of my triggers).

If you have room for bigger pots like the ones on my deck, let me know. I'll send you a plant!

And yeah, once a person sees\feels\experiences the act of bringing plants from seed to harvest (any kind of plant) a person will often find pleasure in applying the art to other plants.

I imagine that every gardener has a particular plant that, for some reason, is their favorite.

For me, it is the water lily, and my idea of the perfect water lily flower is this one, the Sacred Blue Lotus (actually a water lily, not a lotus). My first bloom of the season:

I love your water lillies so much! They're something I've been wanting and yours are inspiring.

Our tomato's were planted late and are just starting to redden up. They're growing really strong though. The basil is huge too, but its been bolting. Still the basil flowers are cute and good in salads. We have another bed but it's much less photogenic.
