If you're running WinVista or Win7, you may need to either a) make sure your version of Spybot is compatible/updated, or b), right click the Spybot program icon & choose 'Run as Administrator'.

Thank you for that! I had deleted it a little after this post, but should I reinstall it I'll try to remember that.

I use Linux (10 I think...) and need to know how to do a nice sweep. To get rid of cookies, or any of that gook. I also watch porn so whatever might be lurkng in there. It's running slower than usual, but I'm new to Linux and could use some help!

We have a couple Linux users, hanging around, but it may be a day or three. Sadly, I know nothing of the running, mechanics or user abilities to the software. But I do know whose cage to rattle, if nobody responds to you here.

You can clear your web browser cache and cookies the same way that you do on a Windows/Mac machine - do a quick google search for your browser.

Depending on your flavour of Linux, "Computer Janitor" does a pretty good job.

For the most part, just clear out your old logs, remove unused packages (and don't forget to clean your package cache afterwards). You can remove unused kernel files if you'd like too.

Usually, there's no need for anything like "defrag" with a Linux box because the filesystems don't require it.

Boot into safe mode with Networking access, install Avast! and run a full scan, then run a boot-time scan, then, when both of those are done log into your usual Windows account and run a full scan there. Malwarebytes is a good follow up. If neither of those seem to solve the issue, you probably have a rootkit installed - try Hitman Pro. You can Google all of the tools.

I pulled up Computer Janitor... and there's nothing there. o.O And I don't know how to do any of what you just said.

So I need help with my bluetooth headset. I can't get it to connect to my computer and when I double click on the icon it ends up freezing my computer entirely. I have no clue what's causing this or what to do.

Edit: Never mind. Just fidgeted around in device and printers and unplugged the USB device for the headset and plugged it in again.

LOL I was gonna say, when in doubt, pull the plug. Sometimes my (desktop) computer acts really weird and that's the only thing that works.

Re: The Tech Thread (or I'ma gonna break my computer or else!)

Ok folks. Really a tech advice situation here.
I currently have Norton Internet Security. I paid $59.99 and my renewel is $49.99 for the 2012 version.

I do not have the money to renew.

                      BUT.

I found that I can put the anti virus on my Best Buy card. I'm in dire need to have this stay on my laptop.

                      So I did some investigating.

On Best Buy I can buy two products.

                      1) Norton Anti Virus with Anti Spyware for $39.99

It's the same as the Norton Internet Security I currently have except for a few things I don't need. Such as blocking for parental content or wireless. It's also priced at $69.99.

                      2) Webroot Secure AntiVirus 2012 for $39.99
I actually have used Webroot before with reviews from Pc World's top ten anti virus. And from Leo Laporte (a computer guru I adore on podcasts!)

Anyways. I was going towards Webroot simply because it's always been a very light weight alternative. But...I could go either way.

                      What do you guys think?

I'd say, since you're already familiar with Webroot, and that Norton option is overkill (in that it does a bunch of stuff that you don't need [or want??]) that I'd go with Webroot.

In the end, you have to be comfortable with what you buy. Do you find one of them more comforting, to help protect your computer? Are you more comfortable with using something you've used before, rather than learning the ins and outs of something new? Which one do you actually like?

I mean, for my part, I just like the extra bells and whistles... in case I happen to expand my needs. Which never happens, of course.

I'd go with Webroot, especially if you've got Vista or Win7. There are so many native security thingies on Vista/7 that Norton is becoming redundant.

Yup. That's my thought. My win7 is pretty safe as it is. And I like the light weight of Webroot.

While not computer related, I do have a tech question for those who may be in the know better than I. I want to add a facebook like button and a twitter follow button on my blogger account, but I can't seem to find one. Does such a way exist on blogger? If not, is there a reliable, free widget I can add?

This tutorial will help you to customize and add a Facebook Like Box(also called as Facebook Fan Box)) to your Blogger Blog.
