I'm waiting for hubby to start reading the Outlander Series... He reads faster so he needs to read it first and then I can read it! But he's being so damned lazy!

The Five Jars, by M.R. James.

James is best known for his ghost stories (Ghost Stories of an Antiquarian is one famous collection), but this one is fairy story. Very fun.

Just sort of a curiosity question but how many actually read a book versus simply listen to an audio of a book? For me I find I like to physically read the pages as the words come to life under the mental images I make but also how many things are pronounced in my own mind. Many a voicer has told a good tale but the story lacks because the voice doesn't match how one might view the character's.

I much prefer reading to listening. I can pause, skim ahead or re-read as I like. I like being able to set the pace. And I like being able to interpret the character's personalities to a point. However, reading aloud to my son is really fun!

One of the Great Lost Pleasures of Childhood is somebody who enjoys it, reading to you, because they want to.

And reading to a child because they enjoy it so much.

I always loved reading a book, though these days an audio book is much easier as my eyes are not what they used to be.

I can relate to that. When younger it seemed there were hundreds of over sized printed books, today never find them for books I am interested in. Sad part is I really do not find to many audio books that I want either.

While many people dislike ebooks (Luddites, ya know ), one of the virtues of ebooks is that you can increase type size for old eyes.

That, in and of itself, is a major plus.

I prefer reading real books to listening, but...

I live 650 km away from a bookshop, if I suddenly want to read something, I will usually download the ebook to my kobo reader, because it's so cheap and instant and I find random things of interest though their suggestions.

I have only listened to two things as an audio book. Harry Potter, cos I already know the story inside out and Stephen Fry was reading it, and Stephen Frys 2nd autobiography, cos Stephen Fry was reading it..... hehe

Thing is with an ebook(the text ones),you can use a program to read it via audio,so if its a real book, you need to find someone kind enough to read it out load to you.
