The Secret Circle (aka Gods Please Kill Me Now)

I don't know if anyone else has caught wind of this, but I just wanted to warn y'all that we may get inundated by a new crop of teen witches with uber superpowers...

Yeah, I had caught wind of this a bit ago. I figure if it lasts it won't be any worse than the Charmed crowd.

The books weren't horrendously bad when I read them in High School. I'll reserve judgement on the show till I actually see some of it. All told, I don't really have an issue with this type of show. Sure, it produces some teenagers with weird ideas but I can think of significantly worse things in the world. If the kids with superpowers are mildly entertaining, cool. Otherwise, I'll move on.

I guess my problem isn't so much the targeted market as the older ones...

And I am still in recovery from the whole Charmed 'White Lighter' thing.

One of these days, I'm going to encounter one of these white-lighters. I've come across a handful of people who use primarily light based symbols and visualizations. One or two of which had strange ideas of what light could and couldn't do but I don't meet stereotypical white-lighters. I meet their Dark Snowflake cousins in every occult forum I visit but it's been years since I encountered anyone that put more focus on light based craft than I do and I've yet to meet a "white-lighter". If there weren't so many complaints about them then I'd revive my theory that they were hunted down and exterminated by the dark snowflakes of the world.

Maybe it's because I've been on the west coast & here in Vegas so long - there are still pockets of New Agery here and there, and because of Area 51, we get the added bonus of UFO chasers & people who welcome the Space Brothers. I can tolerate the New Agers for the most part - I grew up around it. I can tolerate people who other people call 'fluffy bunnies'. I can tolerate schizophrenics. I can even muster a small amount of civility for Christo-Wiccans. Buuuutttt...

'White-lighters' are the witchcraft equivalent of Sunday afternoon Kung-Fu movie watchers who believe they are martial artists.

I always thought white-lighters were something like this:

And I keep running into the overly positive type. You know, the ones who think any grounding in realism is just "negative":P When you make "upbeat and energetic" people like me barf we've got problems. Those existed well before programs like Charmed, Buffy, etc. Plus, it's a rant best saved for another day.

The real question-the one you presented, perz- is how many wanna-blessed-be's will be influenced by this show and perpetuate that fun Pagan stereotype, not to mention if Pagans should even brace for it. My prediction still stands at no worse than its predecessors. As for bracing for the influx? Probably not necessary.

LOL I saw a preview for it. To be honest those CW shows (Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Gossip Girl, etc) are a huge guilty pleasure of mine, so I'll probably watch and enjoy it.

Plus, executive producer Kevin Williamson? The man who brought us Dawson's Creek? I say awesome.

EDIT: Checked it out....pretty entertaining. Bonus points for being filmed back home (I don't know how I always know something is filmed in Vancouver, even when it's set in Washington State, because it's not -that- different, but I just always seem to be able to tell..and IMDB confirmed that it's a Van production!)

Yeah, I won't be able to resist. I will watch this and probably love it. I agree with well just about everyone else, I don't see it being any worse than anything else.

If I ever found a person like this, I'm sorry I may actually have to bash in their head, cremate them then scatter their ashes across several bodies of water.

A bit thorough there for a group that's unlikely to be using tricks to cheat death or be truly well versed in combative craftwork. Still need to meet one of them one day, I have to keep reminding myself that tuey aren't extinct.
