Re: Home Cleansing, Blessing and Protection

I just wanted to swing by an add a cute little story to my home cleansing and blessing saga. At the time of the cleansing, I couldn't find my little hand cymbals that I used to use as part of my home cleansings, so I just clapped my hands a few times in every room. This morning I was looking for something else (a tiny pewter owl that seems to have vanished.. wait.. boo, I thought I'd remembered where it was while typing, never mind), and I came by the cymbals. I decided to go around and purify the energy with them. Dolly had been asleep on her tower, but came down and followed me around, watching intently as I went; just like the curiosity she'd shown the other day. It seemed like she enjoyed the sound those chimes make!

This flat was once rented by a pair of British nationalists who were apparently quite racist and unpleasant. They had every wall in the flat painted red white or blue, so I am glad to have cleared away any negativity they'd left behind. I think the flat still remembers though, and carries a feint energy of them. It's probably because the paint was never removed, simply painted over. So I think I'm going to start cleansing and blessing the flat a little more often from now on. In fact, I know I should be doing this anyway.

I give the kids noise-makers during home cleansing. They are very enthusiastic...
“You have never answered but you did not need to. If I stand at the ocean I can hear you with your thousand voices. Sometimes you shout, hilarious laughter that taunts all questions. Other nights you are silent as death, a mirror in which the stars show themselves. Then I think you want to tell me something, but you never do. Of course I know I have written letters to no-one. But what if I find a trident tomorrow?" ~~Letters to Poseidon, Cees Nooteboom

“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”

I can imagine that would add quite some oomph to the ritual! I try to be cheerful and lively as I work, but there's nothing can quite match the energy of children enjoying themselves. I just have to content myself with a kitty's curiosity!

Actually, I just thought of something I'd wanted to ask about. I've been thinking of using glass baubles around the flat, particularly in the hallway, as witch balls. Actually, I've been wanting to do this for quite some time, and I did have one up at my mum's. Has anyone else done this? Is there anything I should take into consideration first? I'm not even sure they were ever meant for use in the home, or if they were typically hung outside the building.

I know Tylluan has some authentic witch balls, so maybe she's the one to ask.

So the plan for our house cleansing is coming together. The materials are almost all gathered. We have our white sage, supplies to hand make a beeswax candle, pure white beach sand from Pensacola Beach gathered under a full moon, and an heirloom silver bowl. We are a family of differing faiths so the ritual is complicated but interesting also.

I make all our ritual salt--I shoot for high tide full moon for getting the water, and yeah, it takes a while (and there's some tricks to it), but after reading a history of salt, I feel way more connected to both humanity and to nature in doing this myself.

Re: Home Cleansing, Blessing and Protection

So there's been some crap go down in my, and my friends life in recent years that directly related to my family and means I have little contact with them anymore. About a year ago, they came to my house, uninvited, to verbally accost (so?) me, and this isn't the first time they've done this, so I figured my shields needed stepping up and put together a bit more of a physical shield spell.

It's simply rock salt from the cupboard, and ashes from our hearth to make 'black salt. I had excess dog-tooth spar on hand (Icelandic calcite) so charged it to protect the corners. And then let it all sit there for a year...

Finally cleaned my altar! Did the witch woo-woo, currently covered in root! So satisfying and things feel goooood.

    RIP

I have never been across the way
Seen the desert and the birds
    You cut your hair short
Like a shush to an insult
    The world had been yelling
Since the day you were born
    Revolting with anger
While it smiled like it was cute
    That everything was shit.

Re: Home Cleansing, Blessing and Protection

it is an old thread - but it is the top thread in the category - so no harm done in adding...

just a quick word that is knowledge to most but that I have seen overlooked numerous times...

protection and cleansings are great - but they should be followed up with charging/recharging for your own magikal practice - after a good cleansing I just use dragons blood to recharge the atmosphere and then a small ritual/circle to invite the Gods Goddesses and positive energies back in...
