The quote "To be or not to be?" from Hamlet is a contemplation of suicide. I'd say that everyone here is on the side of "to be", because living is a prerequisite to answering.

            To be, all the way.

It's the only possible answer, because what is, is; and what is not, is not.

Since "be" indicates existence, and the ability to ask or percieve the question confirms existence, existence "is."

Because what is, is, and the question refers to existence and proves the existence of the observer through his/her perception of the question, the question answers itself.

"To be" is the only possible answer.

Actually, I think the daftest debate we've ever had around here was over chickpeas...which are neither chick, nor pea.

I thought the daftest debate was whether Ziltoid was truly Omniscient or not.

First, I think we need to define some key terms...

What does "to" mean? And "be"? How about "not" and "or"?

What is the difference between "being" and "not being"?

Can they be quantitatively or qualitatively measured?

Being = any non-zero positive number (denotes existence)
Not being = zero (denotes non existence)
To be = being (the state of "being")
Not to be = not being (the state of "not being")

You could argue that being would be more accurately described as any value, because a number is simply a representation of the value of the "distance" between any given point on a number line and zero.
And you could also argue that zero is being, because it is a value. not being would be to be Null - to have no value and no placement.

This thread just has some good random arguments to read, not sure what they are arguing myself, but its a lark!

I have personally been on both sides of the fence for a while now, (it is amazing how many times you can tell somebody something and not have them have any idea you've told them...) but I think not to be, may not be a bad experiment for a little while, just to see how I really like it.
