    Buddhism

Just wondering at the fact that we have no Buddhism thread... I know a little. Took a class on it my freshman year. I plan to take a more detailed class in the spring. If anyone has any questions, I can try to answer, though for the deeper stuff, I'll probly be asking my own questions.

My first question: Does anyone out there consider themselves Buddhist? If so is Buddhism your only path or have you twined it with another?

I wondered if he could ever understand that it was a blessing, not a sin, to be graced with more than one love.
It could be complicated; of course it could be complicated. And it opened one up to the possibility of more pain and loss.
Still, it was a blessing I would never relinquish. Love, genuine love, was always a cause for joy.

    Re: Buddhism

I use meditation techniques I've learned from Buddhists, and I have enormous respect for what they've learned and been willing to teach about the way the mind works, however, I'm not a Buddhist because I don't accept their underlying world.

    - In other words, I've mooched their technology, but not their philosophy.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

    Re: Buddhism

There are several people around me who said they believe in buddhism. but when I ask them about what they believe, the only thing I got was that buddha helped them to have good luck. I would doubt if that is really "believing in"... Anyway, I don't believe in Buddhism. Just to give my opinion.

I don't know a whole lot about Buddhism, but I'd be willing to learn. To be honest, I'm rather enamored with the idea of going to Tibet and learning to meditate with monks (but I doubt that'll happen).

Fidd (my husband) is fascinated with Buddhism, particularly the interplay with Shinto in Japan. He was an Asian Studies Major for three years, so he could probably answer questions, too, if people were interested in a thread, but he himself is not Buddhist.

    Re: Buddhism

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, when it comes to Satanism, it might have to do with owning up to your actions and getting what coming to you for those actions. Which is a big part of Buddhism. Karma. If you do good deeds, you move to a higher level, if you do bad deeds, to a lower one, and if you're average you stay where you are. That's really quite a simple way of putting it but...

I can see the two coinciding.

I can see similarities, but I don't see how a person can claim to be both.

    Re: Buddhism

Well I've just known a few Satanists who really just sorta jive with Buddhism. Hmm. Here is the thing. Ok many Satanists are also Atheists in belief. And with those type of Satanists, well the tend to fall into certain categories. Some find that they believe in the teachings of Lavey (as I do). Some find they are still holding on to Pagan tendencies. And some take with them Buddhist ideals. Now not all the ideals. But they do find a way to incorporate Buddhist beliefs in helping them live their life. It's late in the wee night/morning. So excuse the lazy answer: Google Satanism/Buddhism and you will see many posts on forums about how Satanists combine the two.

*it's possible since I am a Satanist, but also agree with many of the Islamic beliefs as well.
