    The great species die off

I have been seeing stories about this off and on for a while. Read the story and make your own judgements.

The title "apocalypse-now" is kind of alarming but take from it what you will.

Those of you who had the misfortune of reading my book, Snakebit: Confessions of a Herpetologist may recall that I poked great fun at the nerdy predilections of this motley sect, but that I also held them in great esteem.

And here is a quote from the story.
"Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems are on the edge globally. As evidenced by a preponderance of lethal, once-rare fungal diseases in organisms as diverse as coral, trees, frogs and bats — fungi that co-evolved with these organisms for millennia and only recently become pathogenic — the proverbial shit has hit the fan."

Wow if that isn't going to be the most depressing thing I read today... Is anyone really surprised though? Shame though that the elections aren't going to even begin to look at the environmental picture this year, the ecology could use a bit of a political "I wanna look like I care" funding boost.

But they were doughnuts of darkness. Evil damned doughnuts, tainted by the spawn of darkness.... Which could obviously only be redeemed by passing through the fiery inferno of my digestive tract.
