Re: If you could live anywhere in the world

I wish I could find a place in the southern United States that isn't backwoods, antebellum, the South Will Rise Again type areas. I've heard there are little liberal pocket towns in North Carolina and stuff, but I'm stuck in Georgia for the next 15 years, easily.

I'd like to move to Canada, but I'll never qualify for permanent residency.
There once was a man who said though,
It seems that I know that I know,
    What I'd like to see,
Is the I that knows me,
When I know that I know that I know.

Even if you move to one of the enclaves, they've got you surrounded. ;-P

Why not? Why not get a working holiday visa, or some such?

Yeah I'd second this. If you're too old, there are also other ways to get visas.

After looking over the web site, I don't qualify under any skilled worker programs. I don't think police officers and police dispatchers are in high demand from foreign persons. I don't have anyone to sponsor me and I have no immediate family that is Canadian.

                Vacation there, meet someone...?

You could also enter as a prospective student and start a new career. :P

I'm married and I'm in my mid-30s with a son and two step-daughters. All of this would be possible were I single and in my early 20s. Not so much now.

It's still possible, it just depends on what you put priorities onto.

The Panhandle of Texas... especially on top of the Caprock... with a house in the center of a "section" of land (1 square mile; 640 acres)... so that, no matter what direction you come from, you have to travel, at least, 1/2 mile of MY road to get to my house... plus... it's REALLY flat in the Panhandle... I used to live there, 45 miles north of Lubbock... on a clear night, you could see the lights of Lubbock from my front porch... so... I'll see you coming.

The Panhandle is home to me... it is where I was born and raised, and spent the first 27 years of my life... and, as such, I like the idea of being able to see for miles.

At this point in my life, I would love to live somewhere in the Southwest of the U.S.
I've always loved desert climates, and the landscape is so full of surreal beauty.
I also read about some really cool plants that exist around those parts. Saguaro cacti are freakin' badass, man.
