Re: Things that make you smile

Congrats Jembru! I bet that's a big relief off your shoulders.

    My bike tire is fixed!
Backstory: The tire went completely flat in a matter of minutes a few days ago. I could feel air through the valve area thinking it was a leak on the seam of the innertube. My roomy took a look at it today and it was a small tear in the middle of the innertube. He says it must have been a small nail that fell out of the tire. So he just patched it.

My coworkers keeps asking me where the hell I'm biking from since this is my third tire that had a puncture. I'm like dude, this IS my car. I'm all up and about our little town on it daily. At least fixing my tire is FREEEEEE!

*my tire got a flat, not fat. Lol

This is what I always had on hand as a kid riding a bike.

You have to also remember my Dad had a patch kit for the CAR tires. I also learned how to change a Car tire as a kid,and for my bike I learned how to balance the spoke tension by watching the guy at the bike shop.(Being poor,I learned how to fix a LOT of things for myself). People sometimes ask,how did you learn to do that, answer is when your poor you have to,you learn things. I am lucky because I have always been a fast learner. Learned how to use a post hole digger, the proper way to use an ax to cut down trees(that from my time on a Navy base in Washington that was up in the mountains) The base, now closed was Named "Jim Creek navel radio station).

This is a pic of said stations transmitter(base is now a national park)

Lol. First flat i got on the old bike, I bought this kit. I keep it in the porch area...next to my bike!
That's what he patched it with. Thankfully I'm never more than a mile from home in any direction. So if I ever get stranded, there's someone to help. Or I walk the rest of the way.

life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

          Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

Re: Things that make you smile

I've made my mind up, I'm going for the job! The new sections open in January so I'll apply now and if I get it, and if JP agrees (and I'm sure he will), I'm going to hand my notice to finish at the end of November. I'll have the whole damned Christmas and New Year off! Not something one often gets to do in the care industry. I can't remember the last time I had 2 weeks off never mind 4. I doubt many companies would let me take 4 weeks off at once, so I figured I'll do it now while I have the chance (and the annual leave to cover it!)

              That all sounds awesome, Jem!

As for the potential job for you, could you use an alternative way to get there like cycling? I know people don't cycle nearly as much in the UK as they do here, but things are changing and it's super cheap!
Yeah, I never wanted to work in elderly care so I was surprised when I was being drawn to palliative care. When I thought about it though, it was really just the quality of care that put me off. Where I work is amazing, with staff well-trained and reasonably well-paid (used to be very well paid but the lack of significant pay increases means that minimum wage is slowly catching us up!), and most importantly, the people we support come first. They get to say how they want to live their lives and we just make it happen! Dementia care has a lot of stigma and you hear horror stories like people being drag lifted from beds, staff getting them up at 5 in the morning and putting them to bed at 7 at night because they all have to be up, or in bed for the staff handover. Everyone sitting down at the same time, to eat the same meal. Staff sitting around gossiping and drinking tea, or just too overstretched to respond, while residents are so desperate for the toilet that they end up having an accident.

This place seems different. If it delivers what it claims to deliver, then it is the same kind of care I'm used to giving, and right up until the end of life! It looks like a fancy hotel surrounded by posh bungalows rather than a drab old care home.

I found out tonight that night staff don't get an hourly increment like we do here, but I'd still be on more money and they're 11 hour shifts instead of 10. That extra hour would cover my travel costs. I'll definitely consider the bike too, although I'd worry about travelling home when I'm too tired. Too tired? haha.. get it?.. 'two tired...' ah, tough crowd...

Totally! We were determined not to let our situation get us down so rather than cutting back on spending, we carried on with our lives as normal. We played, we laughed, we just generally enjoyed life as usual.

Once he got the job though, I realised how much I'd been bottling up even from myself. I felt completely fine and free of stress the whole time, and yet last night while at work I just started sobbing. I felt really giddy one second. Like on top of the world. I thanked Brigantia under my breath and then the flood gates opened and I was like 'aha, so that's where the tears have been hiding!'
夕方に急なにわか雨は「夕立」と呼ばれるなら、なぜ朝ににわか雨は「朝立ち」と呼ばれないの? ^^If a sudden rain shower in the evening is referred to as an 'evening stand', then why isn't a shower in the morning called 'morning stand'?

Tonight I hit the trails on my mountain bike. As I approached home I stopped for a drink of water, and got caught in the moment. It was just as the heat had broken, and the sun dipped below the corn fields. I heard turkeys in the distance, and wind across the fields. I just sat and listened for a while

It's done!Booked my accommodations at The Golden Gate hotel and Casino in the Fremont district. ($120 everything included) And I got my car rental booked that's down the street from my house (with free pick-up!) ($130 everything included)

Being frugal and spending the day looking for the best deals is totally worth it. Now I have more money to spend! (even though I'm doing everything for free except the observation feris wheel and the Bodies exhibit at the Luxor. But fear not, I'm getting discounts on those as well). And I'm thinking of adding a spa massage.

Cars in the shop, they are basically going to have to repair the whole motor... all covered under warranty and they gave me loaner. Also had really good pizza and conversation with the in laws and it's a beautiful fall day. I needed it!
