    Who hires your principals?

Here, all that is often done by school board or a hiring committee for the superintendent (who is generally hired by the school board).

The school board is anyone that can get elected--no educational experience necessary, no human resources or managerial experience necessary. I'd guess that either the school board or the hiring committee got a batch of resumes from the HR person for the district (whose real experience is taking care of payroll issues and checking to make sure teachers are properly licensed and submitting their fingerprints for a background check), who probably looked at the resume and said, "huh, looks okay to me" and thought that they'd called references, etc. But how many overworked, low paid HR people managing a district with what is probably dozens of teacher to check to make sure the university is accredited properly, etc. Especially if they went to school 20 year ago?

I read about Diploma mills, where if you have the cash, they will send you your "Degree" If the hiring person does not check(Time constraints) things might slip through. Most schools are under funded any way...As I have read, teachers in grammar schools spend their OWN money for supplies so the kids learn. That sucks, because most teachers make very little for the time they spent in Collage getting the degree to teach.

I lack words for the above. You'll have to see the insanity for yourself.
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

            Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

(Our schools just been through this)

For a principal to be hired, they have to be registered with the teachers registration board and have an authority to teach with the department (this is all gvt schools im talking about here. These 2 organisations judge the qualifications of a teacher. You have to re-register every 3 years, and get a new authority to teach each yea unless your permanent.

If thats all fine and you want to be a principal, you submit it all again with your resume to the system, then a panel of 4 people decide who gets the job. These 4 people must be merit selection trained and are : the regions education director; a union member and voted rep from the school staff; the governing council chairman; and a person in the same job at a different school.

I don't know what a grammar school is (gvt or private?) But here teachers get a budget which covers all supplied (unless you wamt some expensive science thing). Even if you run out though a teacher would never be expected to fork out for pencils or tissues on their own dollar. The school would sort it out.

Public or private? Our 6th graders are 10-11 so not that dissimilar and we call it Primary school.

GRammar school is a term that usually applies to lower levels---K or preK- 5th or 6th (Elementary), sometimes including 6-8th (middle school) or 7-8th (junior high)...and either public or private.

I get a school supply list every year--everything from tissues and pencils to markers and scissors to notebooks and paper. I generally send extras for kids whose parents can't afford supplies. I generally also get my kids teachers a gift card at the beginning of the year, before the winter holidays, and at the end of the year so towards their next year's classes--its not unusual for a teacher to spend hundreds, even thousands of their own dollars (that they barely make in income in the first place) on school supplies every year, from books to manipulatives to basic supplies, depending on the subject and grade. When we lived in Norfolk, I bought Sophie's 2nd grade class mittens and hats from Wal-mart and about 10 coats from the thrift store so they could have recess in the fall/winter, since a lot of kids don't have them because their families don't have money for them and they are only really a true necessity for about 8-10 weeks.

Its so bad here, there's even a gofundme sort of website to sponsor stuff teachers want to do in their classroom that they can't afford on their own. Last year, I donated $80 to my cousin who teaches middle school to get an overhead projector camera for science class experiments.

Holy crap. That is so different to here. We supply our kids with everything. Like public schools generally supply all books and stationary to kids and teachers have budgets for resources, like 600-1000 a class, more for specialty subjects (my last school had 2500 for music each year). My private high school we had to buy our own books and stationery.
