    Halloween Costume Ideas

Is it crazy that I'm already thinking about this? Seriously. So, this isn't just for me, anyone wanting ideas for a costume can post here and get some helpful ideas, or if you just want to share what you're gonna wear this year, if you wear a costume, that's great too.

But... I would like some advice. I'll be around 7 months preggo when Halloween rolls around. And anyone I ask just gives me cooky ideas for what to wear. Paint your belly like a pumpkin! I mean, cmon, really? I wanna do something mystical looking and cool, but still pregnancy related. And the closest I've come to finding anything I'd wear is a skeleton T-Shirt thing where there's a cute little skeleton for the baby too.

I want a cape this year. I really do. No clue why, but I love them and I want one. And I'd really love to wear my choker with Hekate's symbol on it...

And my work has some rules on what we can wear: No hats. No pockets. I can't show too much skin... so in years of not preggo I couldn't wear a slutty costume for instance. But I'm pretty sure a painted belly would count as too much skin as well. Oh, and it can't be street clothes. Like we can't come in in regular clothes and be like, my costume is me! It's a casino. They let us wear costumes (I just about spelt customers...), but we still have to be in something appropriate, as in we can't be able to hide to much from the camera's and we can't be offensive to the customers... So the costumes with the baby tearing out of momma's stomach? Nada.

Anyway... Any ideas? Any myths about preggo ladies that I would use? Anyone?

hmmm can't think of any myths off the top of my head unless you wanna use morgan le fey being pregnant with mordred. Or something along those lines-a priestess pregnant from something like the "rites of beltane" from the Avalon book/move.

Wednesday Addams would be ok it would be all black and cover everything. I have seen some skeleton body suits with the baby bones on the bump. Ursula from Little Mermaid. One site suggested Hester Prynne with the scarlet A. I kinda love the last one.

I'm really liking the Mother Earth idea - I've already got an idea of how it could look going through my head.

So, just to make sure I've got it straight in my head: costume (Mother Earth in this case), with choker and cape? How about a dark blue dress, with a map of Earth (I'd suggest either a Mollweide, Robinson or Behrman projection) going from seam to seam across the front in hunter green; either painted on, which could be uncomfortable if it soaks through the fabric, or sewn on, which could take an age and a half. Have fitted long sleeves, to show off the sage green/russet brown cape. I'd have it fall about knee length, so as not to get in the way, but still be long and fun to have, then with a capelet at the top, wide necked, and held closed with a little globe pin.

Not really sure about hair or shoes, since A) I know nothing about your hair and B) I know nothing about your shoes.

...Yep, definitely need to figure out what I'm doing for my costume now. Hope I helped!

Iron on. You can print to iron-on fabric...

                  Thanks, everyone!

I'm really love this mother earth idea as well. I'm thinking blue cape, to represent the sky, with a green dress, floor length cause that's just what seems right to me. If they'll let me show off the baby bump, which I'm really in doubt on, I could paint my belly to look like the planet and then when I hold it, it'll look like I'm holding the planet in my hands. If not, I'm thinking of painting/decaling/something on the part of the dress that goes over my belly. I'll have to talk to a seamstress to get that worked out.

Shoes? I'll prolly wear flats. I'm on my feet for seven hours and being seven months preggo? Heels are definitely out. I need my feet to be comfy. So I'll look for some green or brown flats.

Hair? My hair is longish, down between my shoulder blades, so I'll prolly put some loose curls in and let it dangle, some sort of wreath on top. Maybe a few flowers woven in. Go carefree.

This is sounding more amazing the more I think about it... hmm. Thanks!

ETA: Thal, do you have to have a special printer for that? We don't even have a printer... I'd prolly have to do it at like, the library, or a print shop.

Woot! lol, this could look really cool... Did you ever dress up for Halloween while preggo with either of your littles Thal? Do you even dress up? I'd prolly let it go... but we get to dress up at work, and it's something I really look forward to each year.

Can you sew? The reason I'm asking is the first thing that popped into my head was this painting: http://www.artcyclopedia.org/art/jan...-arnolfini.jpg but you'd probably need to make it yourself. You could wear a cloak with it.

I can sew some, but I'm not so confident in my ability that I would be able to put an outfit together.. unless it was something simple. Most I've done some pillowcases, a very simple type of back pack, and one very uneven quilt.

I just Googled 'Halloween costumes for pregnant women' and WOW there is some great and some very lame costumes. There was a very graphic killer clown coming out of the belly costume that was very clever but a little disturbing.

OH, you could go as Melisandre from Game of Thrones and get a long red wig, wear flesh colored tights and tank top, then a kick ass black medieval robe and go around "flashing" people, and telling them their inner fires are burning low. Anyone who has seen it should get the reference if the wig and robe are well done. You could even get some fabric paint and paint on a black mass at the crotch of the tights but, you know, that might be too much for some.

Or, if you're looking for something less hilarious, go with what the ladies have suggested with mother earth. Just don't paint your belly -- it shouldn't be exposed in the end of October!

As for me, I've been tossing some ideas around in my head and am considering trying to get a good Daria costume, or going as Velma from Scooby Doo (again, and better).
