man plotted to kill and eat children, feds say

What's with the cannibals these days?

Isn't it enough just to be thoroughly disgusting and depraved... do people have to eat each other too?

Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

I heard about this last period in school. It's pretty disgusting but he's not the first cannibal, child rapist in the north east. Personally I've never understood why cannibalism is a bad thing, other than the murdering that usually precedes it anyway. Reading the article, he put a lot of thought into this it looks like. If he was more tech savy then he might not have gotten found. I feel a little unsafe knowing that delusional psychopaths like this guy exist in apparently large numbers. I'm a little surprised that he didn't get longer but the way sentencing for crimes work has never entirely made sense to me.

Just to set the record straight, I do not endorse this man's attempts at cannibalism. Cannibalism should be a straightforward procedure between consenting adults.

All joking aside, from the photos of this guy's 'dungeon', he is a very sick man. He needs some serious psychiatric help.

I read this one late last night. Scary stuff, even if he did nothing and even if it's all in his rp head- I've never known any larper to go that far with props in such a disturbing thought.

I saw this one. These things make you want to weep, or run out with a gun and batman mask. Or maybe both.

That he had the dungeon all set to go (do you suppose he was practicing with farm animals? That table looked used...) is the double creep part. It's easy to see where the old stories of canibal ogres might have come from.

Outside the child porn subject, most of his charges are conspiracy type (not literal conspiracy) charges. The system doesn't hit preparation to rape and murder with the same level of vehemence as successfully committing rape and murder. If the feds can hold him for 27+ years, then I'm impressed.

Thal, that case is atrocious and is sitting on the edge between my views of
"You don't execute except as response to murder or treason, period."

                and

"He started this horror show when she was a child! Publicly impale his ass on the side of a road as an object lesson to next twisted f*** like him!"
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

Truthfully, I don't want to think about the 'might haves'. The concept of torture makes my guts twist.

I will never forget, ever again, to lock my door. That is terrifying.

Going to save this link the next time someone asks me why we're considering homeschooling. If my kids never leave the house, there's no risk of people like this kidnapping them.

Statistically speaking, the person most likely to kidnap or abuse your children are your family or people you know...the number of stranger abductions have remained incredibly stable over the years.
