Definitely. That's also part of why we want to keep things small. We'd rather save money for later than blow it all on a big party, even if that big party is cheaper here. We don't need anything to get started at first because we already own a home and live together, but we want to start trying for kids right away and kids are expensive.

Haha I know that very well. My parents supported me for a very long time.

At least universities don't charge tuition here.

I'm thinking about the movie "The 6th Sense", near the end when Bruce Willis realizes he's dead and suddenly all the scenes make sense.
I was going to bed when you guys went into chat last night.

Wedding/prob pricing went up a lot during the 80's. Thank goodness mine was before that! Now they do promposals and all, it seems like fun but way over the top. Nobody had a limo at the proms I went to - the guy cleaned up his or his parent's car really well, and off you went!

LOL - always remember that doing homework is a way of getting revenge on the teacher for assigning it. Take the time you work on it, divide by 4, and mutiply that by the number of people in the class. That's the "teacher time" for grading.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

See, now tell the students there is indeed a formula for everything! They WILL use it one day.

I wish all these stupid, negative, political ads would just disappear. I hate voting time because everyone who is trying to get people to vote always has put negative ads out about their opponents. I just can't wait till it is over.

This is possibly the most entertaining quote on homework that I've ever seen. I may need to share it with some people.
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

We didn't even have prom dates at my school. Our prom was sandwiched in between our graduation ceremony and the all-night after-grad party we had (our school organized it to prevent drunk parties, which everyone still did the next weekend anyway). Actual couples paired up, but otherwise everyone just danced with their friends.

My parents married in the 70s and did NOT have a big, white wedding. They had the reception at my Oma's house and my mom wore a pink dress that she made. I think ours will be similar. Luckily, they don't have expectations for a big, fancy wedding because they didn't do that either. My aunt and uncle also did something similar. So I guess my side will be pretty chill as well.

I don't even know where to start, though. We're having a small wedding, but there's still stuff to organize and coordinate. It's also tough because my family will need to buy plane tickets around 9 months in advance, but I can only book the Standesamt (where you have your ceremony here and get officially married here if you're not doing a church wedding) 6 months in advance. Do I just pick a date range and go from there? I mean, no one is going to fly from Canada to Germany for 2-3 days anyway. Anyone who shows up from there will probably combine it with a two-week European vacation.
