Fey, are they here or not?

Since I was a child I have always believed in the fey folk. I was taught to leave offerings for them in the garden or green space by me. I was taught not to step in the ring of mushrooms for fear of being taken, and to glorify in nature. I believe that I have had few encounters with the fey. At sixteen my bedroom windows were open and I swore I heard pan pipes playing. No one else was up and we didn't have neighbors close by. At 21 I invited Beah-Tighe(our housekeeper) into my home to help look after it and me, and every time I have moved since then I have asked her to come with me. Each new place I cleanse and consecrate as my home I invite those fey in need of a home who wish me and mine no harm to join me.

Now my question to you all is do you believe they are of this realm or like Edain McCoy do you believe they are on real only on the austral projection plain?

    None of the above.

Positing their existence for the moment (my opinions on this fluctuate with my mood), I'd say they're residents of a nearby realm but I have no reason to presume it's the Astral. Plus none of the above lets me disagree at least in part with McCoy and that does my heart good.
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

I believed in fey for much, much, longer growing up then santa et. all. Not sure where I sit on it now, except it feels really weird where I live in CA to call on Anglo-Celtic beings.

Any perceived need for some kind interaction with local land/nature spirits usually gets a white cloth with produce, candles and tamales. Everything here either feels very new, or annoyed at the way things have changed.

I tend to not believe in the fey, of pretty much any sort, in a literal-physical sense....or an astral-metaphysical sense either. Or of most mythological/folklore creatures...vampires, werewolves, elves, dwarves, giants, unicorns, selkies, mermaids, etc. Many days, I'm pretty ambivilent about the existence of deities. I don't think they have a physical form, I don't think they exist on another plane (assuming there even *is* another plane). Don't get me wrong, I think there is a *great big something*, I just think that we interpret it how we want to based on our needs...and that the human brain is an amazing thing capable of creating sensation and experiences that are as real as if they were tangible...and that when the two of those things meet (*great big something*+amazing brain), fabulous things happen.

I had a friend many years ago who claimed he actually went to the Fey realm during a meditation. It was something he had worked hard at for a long time. During that journey, he says, he met some who were kind and some who weren't very kind at all. He claims they tried to help his spiritual journey but despite his best efforts he eventually came off as an offensive human and was escorted out.

As for myself, I have never actually encountered them or felt their presence.

I think the gentle folk do exist and I claim to have seen them (when I was almost fifty. Prior to that I really didn't believe in them or want to believe in them at all.) I think they can exist in various other worlds that somehow interact with ours from time to time.

We have some living down the bottom of our garden (yes, honestly) and you can see the effect of them moving things, swinging on plants etc. I'm sure that some here will scoff and come up with all sorts of explanations, but you really do have to be here to see it.

I don't believe there is a single type of fae, but that there are many different types and being.

And I don't expect anyone else here to believe me, just stating my own experience and opinion.

I spend a lot of time out in the Big Emptiness, under the trees at night.

I've noticed that not all things out there are physical. I can't tell you what they are, but there is something there that is more than wind.

As with Tylluan, believe me or not - it doesn't change what is.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

Seconding this, and what Masked said.

Not of our physical reality, not of astral, but somewhere adjacent.

I of course have no arguments with anyone's views on this. I was just out to pick brains and see where people stand. I personally agree with you Tylluan, there are more then one race and one kind and yes I believe some are here and some are in other "places" and do visit on occasion, but I can also see certain areas being to new and them not visiting those places..
As for McCoy I don't know what it is about her views on them but it always rubbed me the wrong way. It could be that she believes so strongly and confidently in the Goddess(ess) and Gods and their physical form but that she can't see fey really existing at all.

Re: Fey, are they here or not?

One winter night some years ago under a dark sky I watched a light appear from the base of a tree. Looked like someone had turned a spotlight on and it shown up into the tree like a beacon. It lasted for maybe 30 seconds then vanished. After that I watched a bunch of smaller lights wind their way up the hillside and eventually vanish as they went over the hill top. Factor in I was well off the road and even then there were no cars on the road nor outside lights from the house down over the hill to cast such a light.

Was it the Fae? I tend to think so but the only thing I know for certain is I lived there for 14 years and only was in place once to see it happen though I saw many other things that suggested there was more than what met the eyes going on on that land.
