Establishment of a Pagan state akin to Israel for Judaism

Out of curiosity, and hear me out, do any of you think it would be nice to have a state, say in a piece of land no one else would really want like Finmark for example to make a state that is officially a pagan state where pagans of multiple denominations could be able to rule themselves as they see fit? I'm not saying send all pagans there, as a Shinto I know I always have Japan as a place to visit my shrines and such but for other pagans it isn't that easy so I'm just wondering if any of you have ever thought a religious state like the Holy See or Israel is something you've ever though about?

This is not meant to cause a debate on Israel or religious states, it is just a question that my curiosity wishes to know more about.

Honestly, I think it'd be like herding cats. Paganism is a huge umbrella term for a lot of people who have very, very different beliefs, and not everyone would be okay with live and let live.

I agree with Habbs here. Paganism is a wide word and not anyone would agree. I actually thought of something for Kemetics, but I realised it's not likely to happen.
Besides I think that Monotheism and Polytheism need to live together. The world won't be the same without one of the two.

God no, too diverse a community to shove into one place under the pretence of unity. Conflicts would arise, there are neo-nazi pagans. ethnic pagans, tree hugging pagans, take-it-or-leave-it pagans, sun worshippers, frog worshippers. Hardly a functioning society. Too many different views and lifestyles.

Agreed. But is frog worshipping bad?

As Habbs said, it'd be like herding cats... paganism is so many things to so many people, it would be a mess, and not all are as nice and accepting as this forum is. It would be a fun experiment, in the same way that herding cats would; I'd be fascinated (and amused) for a while watching the attempts, but I would keep a safe distance. I just don't see how it could ever work, I'm not even sure I would want it to actually.

Being a Celtic Pagan I do have a place I can go to visit shrines. Granted its across the ocean but I can still go. Many of us do have places we can visit with shrines and places of worship. It just depends on your tradition. Do I need a piece of land declared a state for pagans? Negative Ghost Writer.

I guess if we wanted to be picky about which Pagans are in this country, I would recommend taking a continent, say Africa, and dedicating each African country to a different major sect of Paganism. This doesn't actually have to be Africa, hell Russia would be big enough I think.

Actually, this has pretty much already happened. The majority of African beliefs up until colonialization and even still under all of that, are pagan in nature... Just saying.

There are some nondenom pagan communes that have popped up here and there. Seeing as how even at that small of a scale it doesn't really work, I can't forsee an actual country/state working either. Perhaps if we all congregated to Salem (apparently they actually have a very healthy and serious pagan community and mostly get touristy around Halloween) we'd have an interesting community, but I don't think as a separate government it would work.

It could be complicated; of course it could be complicated. And it opened one up to the possibility of more pain and loss.
Still, it was a blessing I would never relinquish. Love, genuine love, was always a cause for joy.

                        Well, heck.

It went so well for Israel, didn't it?

Land that no one really wants tends to either be inhospitable as hell, have a distinct lack of useful natural resources or if you're profoundly unlucky both. Land that a brand new nation state could make use of in a reasonable time frame tends to be occupied by people who might feel a compelling urge to shoot at you for taking it away.

Various highly intelligent people (no I didn't type that with a straight face) stuck Israel right in a highly contentious area with a sizable number of people who were and in a lot of cases still are fans of the "shoot the invader" plan. There are less populated areas to stick brand new nations...

They just tend to run into the problems of being inhospitable, lacking in resources or both.

I know from the not so nice pagans.

it has to happen naturally. if you are comparing a Pagan state with Israel. then you could do what most Jews do in the USA. find out where most of the pagans practice is similar to yours and move there. as some Jews do not see jewish names in a phone book they will not move there. because they are nervous of anti-Semitism among other things.
the best option would to purposely move in an area where there are a lot of pagans or pagan shops. offhand I can think of is Salem,Mass. USA but that is more of a tourist attraction. so that would be a big hit or a miss. Manhatten,NY USA used to be a good mecca of occult gatherings. but not as much as it used to be. despite there being a New York Pagan Pride events as well as other events for Halloween. there is a lot of hostility or low respect towards pagans. not to mention the rents are the highest in the USA. there is an Asatru rep. in the northern area of Queens,NY, then of course you got certain areas in upstate NY as a lot of the pagan shop owners in Manhattan moved up there.

now the other problem besides infighting would be attacks from other beliefs. as I saw Evangelists preaching in the middle of Salem during the Halloween events.
