The first round of elections is going to start after 4 days. And while I did decide to go vote, I still have many doubts. For those that need to catch up, the country is being ruled by the military right now. The Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) is playing the role of the president, until a new president is elected.

The thing is I don't trust them at all. They have committed all kinds of crimes against the Egyptian people and I doubt they would let someone win the elections who would try to hold them accountable for their crimes. This is the main reason why I'm not that excited about participating.

As for the candidates, I still can't believe that two of the main candidates used to be people working for Mubarak's government. Especially the one called Ahmed Shafik. He was the prime minister who was chosen after the protesting started last year. And while people were kind of excited about him at first, he has shown nothing but loyalty to Mubarak and SCAF. The fact that someone like him is even allowed to run for president frustrates me beyond belief. Speaking of frustration, even the vice president of Mubarak wanted to run for president. Though, there was trouble with his paper work and he was disqualified. These people belong in a cell inside a prison.

All this adds to my doubts about this whole situation. I think if any of those two wins, Ahmed Shafik and Amr Mousa, people are going to start protesting all over again. Of course, there are other candidates, like the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Muhammad Morsi, while clearly not someone who was part of Mubarak's regime, the Muslim Brotherhood was extremely supportive of the SCAF and I don't think they would go against them in fear of losing their gains in the parliamentary elections.

Who am I gonna vote for? There are a few candidates that I respect and I really wish they'd all agree to choose just one of them to run for president. But they failed to unite so they are gonna have to run against each other, and against the pro Mubarak and Muslim Brotherhood candidates. Which is quite a shame.

I decided to vote for one candidate who, in my opinion, has very little chance of winning. But he's the only one who I'd vote for with a clear conscience. Perhaps if anyone is interested I'd talk more about him. But like I said before, I don't think the elections are gonna change anything. The only change can come from the people. And I think we still have a long battle ahead of us.
