      So much... *daydreams*

I've been binge-watching Nightmare Kitchen for the first 5 hours of my waking day. I love my days off...
I'm also not too proud to admit I'm crazy jealous of his career success.

Anyway, you should share recipes of things you've made that turned out really good. That could become quite an interesting reference thread...

You don't have to have a mad food budget just be willing to play around a bit. Theres an italian market about 15 mins away from me that I can get frozen pizza dough for $2.00. You can put anything on pizza as we all know. Instant Ramen, if your feeling Thai add some peanut butter(this I learned from a person from Thailand) scallions and an egg.

Make a honey/dijon mustard cream sauce for your next pasta dish... yes it is amazing!
Potato cakes out of instant potatoes.. I hate making mashed potatoes at home.

Momma makes the bread pudding not I, however I did play around with a Maple bacon apple ice cream. It tasted like apple jacks. Next time I'll puree the apples into the cream instead of just soaking them and I'll fold in maple bacon when it comes out of the machine.

          Re: Food Trying

Half month ago, I participated in a party of the "end of the year" in my computers' course. So they decided to make something that's called Fuyke (read as fooyke).
From what they told me, it's putting everything together - vegetables, meat, honey, cola, salt and they also had to put some water. I mean.... Meat, vegetables and honey - no problem. But why did they have to add cola to this thing? O_o
So I decided first to watch how they'll react to this thing and then decide whether to take it or not.

Braising meat in cola is something that's done here alot. It helps break down the tougher cuts of meat and keeps them moist and adds flavor.

Tried a mamoncillo last week, and it's easily one of my two favorite fruits (the other being pineapple).

Gleb, using cola is a great way to throw together a quick, impromptu bbq sauce. A can of Coke, some ketchup, and some mustard, and you're good to go. When it comes down to it, really all you are adding is some caramel, sugar, a little salt, and some acids (which will help break down the connective tissue of the meats). The carbonation will obviously go away during the cooking, and it will add a little sweetness to it. You most likely won't even be able to say "hey, that tastes like Coke!".

As for food trying, I made some collard greens for the first time, which turned out pretty damn tasty. And in a week, my wife and I will be going to a place that supposedly the best bbq in the state, run by a guy who went to BBQ School with Guy Fieri (from the Food Network). I'm excited because they have a few things I've never seen before, like deep fried ribs, and cornbread topped with mac and cheese topped with chopped brisket.

Honestly, that's the only way I'll ingest coke!

Probably so. It's the first time I saw such a thing so I didn't know what to do about it.

It does? Hmmm. I thought the reduction of sugars would reduce the ability for the coke to caramelize.

When your braising your not reducing the liquids down that much. Yes you will have some reduction but not to that point. The soda is going to get sweeter but in all honesty it doesn't matter the type of soda you use. I personally am not a fan of diet sodas (no offense Duce) so I wouldn't use them but those with dietary restrictions can.
