Thal historically treats her mod hat and admin hat as separate. She uses the voice of doom she considers appropriate. If we ever create an owner group to distinguish Thal and Juni (owners) from me (merely a tyrant admin) then she'll have three voices of doom to switch between.

        Re: Christopaganism

Oh, that was a pre-emptive warning due to the topic involved. They get issued on occasion for topics we don't trust. I've got a couple littered around the forums, generally in threads dealing with suicide or abortion, once in a thread with body image because a predecessor thread to it managed to spark some of the worse behavior between senior members we normally get and ignore multiple warnings before Thal and I (in two separate posts and without consulting each other) both said, "F*** it, this is a flamepit and we're closing it." (Albeit, not in those words)

it was a preemptive strike... if historically there's been a 50/50 chance of ultimate thread survial, i tend to err on the side of offering a warning before there is a problem

            Re: Christopaganism

I cold see where the Cristo-Pagan concept might bring some debate just because they seem at odds to combine. I myself keep my opinions fluid because there is something of a pagan "homebrew" within the Catholic peoples, and the merging with certain native beliefs.

                Now yer talkin' like Protestant...
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

Yes. I grew up with an off-the-boat Italian grandmother in the house. She was chock full of the Old Ways, blended in with Catholicism.

I'll agree that Catholics have some elements that are undoubtedly hold overs from pagan religions, but so do Protestant religions. We tend not to notice the latter so much because they've evolved a bit more and changed or lost a number of those elements.

But I'd not call it ChristoPagan. Santeria, and some of the other synchretic faiths...Voodoo, Hoodoo, Cadomble, etc...I think that's an easier arguement to make (and one I'd mention if someone wanted to get in my face about ChristoPaganism).

Oh, I thought those were those Southern Baptists. I think I'm thinking of the old Protestants from England. Oh wait..those are the Anglicans? Too much Elizabethan documentaries.

Most non-Catholic (not non-Roman Catholic, fully non-Catholic) fall under the Protestant umbrella iirc.

Protestants are generally considered to be either the denominations that branched off Lutheranism or off Lutheranism and Anglicism.

If it ain't Catholic (or Eastern Orthodox), its very likely Protestant.

Fundamentalist!! I follow a couple of fundamentalist blogs because their beliefs are (sometimes horrifyingly*) fascinating. There is slight comfort because I grew up with that some of that mentality but my parent broke away before we went to far down the rabbit hole. They aren't fundamentalist but I am planning a trip to visit the Amish county and I am always on the look out for Amish and Mennonite school books.

*Some the blogs endorse the book "To train a child up." by Micheal Pearl and that is a horrible book. The Pearls advocate spanking children with PVC piping and emphasize that parent need to "train" or break their children in to submission. They also advocate withhold food from 4months+ for "bad behavior."
