It is true that we used to be much more connected with death..we would sit with the dieing to comfort them in their passing. And would have wakes that could last a while.
These days we are very disconnected from our own morality.

That's very interesting. I like the idea that we should get more familiar with death. Lots of people are so scared of it (I am too) when really it's the most natural and certain thing about our life.

You guys would be interested in Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. He's a surgeon and his book deals with our fear of mortality, how so many will do anything to exist longer, not live fuller, such as how most cancer treatments will debilitate far worse than the cancer itself a lot of the time, and how we are no longer really that I'm control of our mortality, as doctors frequently do not properly educate before serious choices.
Dying well is far more of a concern for me than dying old.
