Ancestry - how does it work?

I"m trying to figure out my roots and whether I"m Celtic or Saxon (or perhaps something else?)

so how far should we trace our ancestry?

I"m from England yet seem to also have a family line that comes from Scotland and maybe France, Germany.

perhaps the Scots line came from the Vikings? - who knows really.

so am I Celtic or Saxon?

You are both! There is not a direct line the way people like to imagine. I can't find the full clip, but they mentioned this on QI and Stephen, bless him, did his best to explain how we are ALL related to Charlemagne. When you're going back as far as you are attempting, there is no unique bloodline any more. You are British, therefore you most certainly have Celtic AND Saxon blood. Also, as a distant cousin, may I welcome you into the Charlemagne bloodline family!!

夕方に急なにわか雨は「夕立」と呼ばれるなら、なぜ朝ににわか雨は「朝立ち」と呼ばれないの? ^^If a sudden rain shower in the evening is referred to as an 'evening stand', then why isn't a shower in the morning called 'morning stand'?
