I totally agree. The victim shaming. The fact that someone's whole life can be ruined just because photographic evidence exists that they are an anatomically correct, sexual being. The success of the website in general.
It's like people think that someone ought to be punished just for being expressive of a sexual urge.
Fortunately, this guy's fanboys seem to be in the minority.

Ya know, large illegal organizations generally annoy me but Anonymous deciding to go after that guy is actually pretty impressive.

The lady is impressive. Her campaign is both gutsy and well conducted.

Also, I think one of my favorite side details is that unlike the more traditional* forms of revenge porn where legal grounds are tricky, I'm pretty sure this guy is guilty of a couple different things that already have prison time attached.

*Normal image of revenge porn is that an ex who acquired photos during your relationship posts them after a break-up. Since they have the photos legally, there's a degree of difficulty in prosecution. Hacking to get photos or other information to post however is a lot less tricky and tends to have legal consequence.

wow. this is so wrong on so many levels. I'm with Rowanwood, I didn't even realize this was a thing/existed until i read this. To be honest this is not only about feeling angry...it's scary and seriously makes one feel like one just isn't safe from anything. Safety in our now day society seems like nothing but an illusion. An illusion that we keep so we can fall asleep at night. What are we truly safe from?

As much as this whole thing does get me roiling pissed, I can see your point about it being scary. It is pretty creepy. Not only could some basement dwelling slimeball take a chunk out of your hard earned life in a few foul swoops of keyboard, but it's also unsettling to consider how many people would stigmatize you for it.

yeah..another thing that gets me is that you could lose your job/relationship/social reputation about this. It's not like it would be the woman's fault. The a**hole that did this should go down the drain. If anything these women are the victims not the ones who should be treated like criminals. And honestly if your relationship goes down the drain because of something like this happening, the dude wasn't worth your time. He should be the one supporting you through this. That's just the bottom frikken line!!

I think there should be some sort of way to make posting someone's nude image online without their consent illegal. Like, if you can't provide a signed waver of their consent, you should face prosecution.

It would be nice if we could get to the point where we don't blame the victim, but until society learns to grow up, maybe it could help to find a way to punish people who harass women (and men) that way.

PS I know that there IS a way (DCMA) and that images have to be posted with consent, but in reality not much is done about it. I know from experience.

I completely agree. We need to find some way to regulate this. Society isn't socially maturing enough for its technological reality. It seems that we're still stuck in the 12 year old, "Eeeew a pee-pee!" stage when it comes to the fact that people have genitals.

I think it is true though. I mean, I don't really hear of this happening here. Maybe it does to an extent, but not nearly on the same scale. Germany is the second largest internet market in the world. It's not nearly as large as the US, but it's bigger than the UK, and I've also heard of revenge porn happening a lot there. German culture can be deeply conservative on many levels, but there is a huge "nudist" culture, especially in the north. People view nudity very differently and I think that makes a big difference.

That's not to say that they're not horrible to each other...I just think they do it in different ways.

I think the piece I liked here is very correct in that the whole concept behind revenge porn is wrong and that we need to stop shaming victims, but I think until that happens, this is a good step. Punish the perps to show that their behaviour is unacceptable and hopefully it will make people change.
