I don't think this comparison holds water.

    Scotland has a case.

Not every village anywhere has the same case.

And I cannot find anything ridiculous in the argument for Scottish Independence - as some seem to find ....

I don't see how it has any greater case than anywhere else >_>
Hell, I'd be happy for the North to become South Scotland. We have more in common with them politically than the friggin' southerners.
Yikes, all that cultural appropriation that used to be here tho

You seem very defensive of Scotland, patriotic even. Do you have family/heritage there? You even posted a national anthem thing, so I was wondering why you have such a strong bias towards them?

You don't have to be Scottish to support the Scottish. I'm like, 1/8 Scottish and I don't identify as being Scottish at all. I wasn't even all that interested in the place until I went there. But the whole issue is gaining a lot of interest over here. It's in the media quite a bit.

I think the point about diversity within the UK is true - but not the bit about villages. We're talking regions - yes, they seem tiny because the UK is a small island. But they are very distinct, each with their own history and culture. Not villages, regions.

So... the north of England is quite, quite different from the south. And being starved of resources by London, this has fostered a festering grudge. The east of England is quite, quite different from the south West. And the Welsh, well, we're different too.

History - when it goes back more than two or three centuries DOES play an important role. We ignore it at our peril.

Yes, I'll second that. This was a general question and many people do support the Scots' bid for independence even though they may not be Scottish nor have any scottish links.

What is with you and thinking the mods are out to string you up? Get over yourself man, seriously. They are here to help not to silence you.

Also I was not saying you had to be Scottish to like/support Scots. I was asking a simple question.

                    Re: Scottish Vote for Independence

I've not followed this all that much, myself. In fact, everything I've read about it I've gotten from these forums here.

                    BUT

I AM a big fan of scotch.

Well, sometimes after partaking of enough scotch, it's almost like you're in another country. Things look strange, you can't understand what other people are saying, and you even appear to speak another language!

I am in favour of this. Or, when scotland becomes it own country, can we crown scotch as the king?

Wait this raises a question since I have no clue.

Does the "Yes" campaign want to have a Scottish royal house? Or are they going full democracy?
