Since modern Paganism shares a common origin with, and has evolved alongside (in some ways, as part of) the wider New Age movement, I don't see any problem.

If you don't want to be a new ager, OP, then I suggest researching and interpreting ways on practicing Paganism like they did in the Iron Age, and before. Study the Anglo Saxons, Germanic Tribes, Norse Mythology, etc, and adopt your ideas. I prefer to base my ideas on Egyptian, Sumerian, and Akkadian philosophies and ideas.
