    I don't even know what "first world" means, in "first world problems".




    Earlier, now, it was "crop dusting" that threw me for a loop. I am so behind the times, it's stunningly pathetic!

        I understand the example set but "first world" is still a complete mystery.

        I mean, sure, there's first world, second world, third world, fourth world/whatever, and the common one, that I'm familiar with, is third world. That doesn't help solve the mystery of what "first world" MEANS, though.




        Which is probably way too simple for this over-analytical mind to grasp.

          honestly... I have no idea what is the difference between first and third world, other than the famous argument given for the definition of porn: you know it when you see it.

          The concept of "second world" REALLY muddies the waters.

          My comment was meant less as an example, and more as a smart ass "first world rant." (I have a couple bicycles and a Ford Escape... no Ferrari or Jag)

          However, the more accurate (and, perhaps equally "first world problem") situation (in my case), might be, "I carry a spare tube and tire tools in my saddle bag, on my Trek racing bicycle. Earlier, today, I decided to go for a 50 mile ride, for fun, not to get food, and not to run from a predator. Before going out, I decided that I would rather have an extra water bottle mount than an air pump... so I took my air pump off, and mounted another bottle cage. I got 15 miles from the house and popped a tube. So, I had everything I needed to fix the problem, except air... so I had to walk 15 miles back home."

          True story.

          Still don't know what, exactly, defines "first world," though.

              I can only give you directions to where you are going if you are paying attention.
              I have also included a written sey of directions, which I typed up personally this morning.
              If you still fail to reach your destination, you have failed and are clearly eigther a moron or incapable of following directions.
              This is not my fault, and should be a bloody pre-requisite for working in a freaking hospital.
              No, I don't feel bad for you, clearly all the people working here made it to the auditorium, as well as the students we have come to the hospital regularly for presentations, you are officially stupider than college students, congratulations.

                  It can refer to the three worlds theory: Superpowers, the allies of superpowers, and the rest.

                  It was historically tied to the cold war, as in the US and allies are the first world, those dirty commies were the second world, and the fence sitting cowards were the third world.

                  None of that is reflected in modern usage though, there is only first and third world and they mean developed and undeveloped respectively.
                  Trust is knowing someone or something well enough to have a good idea of their motivations and character, for good or for ill. People often say trust when they mean faith.

                    Modern 'Second World' countries are parts of the world that are not fully developed/industrialized but also aren't subject to overwhelming poverty or war deprivations. Like Hungary or Morocco.

                      Ok,Rant,rant rant. Being 66 years old it strikes me as so messed up that politicians are talking about not being able to continue with Social security or medicare. It starts to sound like the whole thing was a huge ponzi scheme. It was REQUIRED that you pay into the fund,not asked if you wanted to. Now we hear "Well,we really cant afford to continue" This has also happened to pension funds from company's people worked their whole lives at believing that they would have a pension to live on when they retired. I do not know how these clowns in Government will end up changing the system we grew up trusting to be there when we got old. Social security was and is a contract between the Government and the people. If they can just back out of a contract with no consequence or legal action, then really, can we trust them to be honest about anything.

                        I rant with you.

                        I've already been screwed on my pension, my health care, and my pay. The governor of THIS state is currently, somehow, able to set aside legally negotiated and binding contracts... contracts that are now binding from only one direction.

                        Contracts binding in only one direction... I think that's the definition of slavery...

                            I feel sick and weird. Tried to explain it to l and he asked if I thought I was pregnant. No... It's not like that. My body hurts, and I could drink a gallon of water and still feel thirsty. It's not in my head, and it's not anxiety.

                            And my kids are acting up because I tried to just let them watch kids shows and get some sleep.

                                Another rant,if we can't afford to pay for social security,then would it not be true we can't afford to pay for pensions for congressmen or senators? Should we perhaps make them work for minimum wage. Most of them really don't need the pensions because they got VERY rich just being in government and having an inside track on investing in the stock market.

                                Ok,that my rant and I am sticking to it.
