I loved her on tv. I know she had lots of health problems - she'll be missed. She was one of the first to play an unmarried career woman in a leading role.

Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.
Hoping perhaps to get this thread Pinned...Sticky?
Are you intending this to be a reusable celebrity death thread or just applied to Mary Tyler Moore?
Life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."
John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper
"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."
Title is now more appropriate to purpose and thread is sticky for the time being. Its sticky status may be subject to change.

One to report dead celebs because it may be another bumper crop year.
It will be. While last year's death count was surprising, it's just a matter of numbers. There were far fewer celebrities up until the 60s after which there was a boom in celebrity culture as most households had a tv, and marketing companies realised they could target the emerging teenaged market. There was a musical revolution that meant many of the artists from that time have been held in high regard and considered greats through the ages. More movies were made which saw more actors rise to fame too.
We're simply at the turning point where those celebs made during that sudden explosion, and in the years that followed, are reaching their 60s and 70s.
Add to this the effects of attentional bias and confirmation bias. Celebs were dying in 2015, but because they were happening so close together in January 2016, we all noticed and started speculating on who might be next. Then each addition death confirmed our belief that 2016 was a bad year to be famous.
I don't know the stats for elsewhere, but deaths for the general population actually decreased compared to 2015 here in the UK last year.
So if this theory is right (I'm just repeating what I heard on BBC breakfast before the New Year), then of course the trend will continue. Some years might be worse than others, but especially now we have reality tv and Pop Idol type shows and a cultural obsession with celebrity, the high death counts will undoubtedly continue. Celebs simply make up a larger slice of the population than they used to, and everyone dies sooner or later. Drug and alcohol abuse probably don't help slow down the process either.
夕方に急なにわか雨は「夕立」と呼ばれるなら、なぜ朝ににわか雨は「朝立ち」と呼ばれないの? ^^If a sudden rain shower in the evening is referred to as an 'evening stand', then why isn't a shower in the morning called 'morning stand'?
