Hello everyone I've been a spiritual person all my life using mostly new age interpretations of gods from the classical antiquity or Christianity. I am by no means a practitioner of any religion I mostly just live as though I am under surveillance by the gods and pray to them through out the day. But I have found a field of study known as transhumanism or posthuman that people say there is something deeply religous about. I will include a list of books I read and in each book they cite sources which led me down a rabbit hole so to speak about this amazing new field. Some people refer to the people spreading the message of transhumanism as transevangelists. These books also talk about gene editing, euthanasia, life extensions, etc. I Hope this is the right place to post this Anyways heres the books

I don't very much like transhumanism, futurism, or progressivism because it comes with the belief that large segments of the population are obsolete. Such beliefs are anti human at their fundamental core.

I'm not even comfortable with like AI upgrades etc. Like itd be cool to be plugged into the internet all the time, but anything that changes out definition of human makes me uncomfortable. It's like living forever. So far long life is only benefiting the old. And the world is overpopulated as it is. Until we develop a way to stop the over-breeding in some areas, then we can't have super humans, or extra long life or any of that stuff.

I think overpopulation is a myth and in the future the word underpopulated will become very popular as the world resembles the fiction "Children Of Men".

Yes, there is a monopoly on power by the current older generations that seem to not care about the wellbeing of younger generations whatsoever. For me we're living in a very dark period of human civilization that will only get much worse with time.

Immortality is overrated, I can't imagine wanting to live forever. I'm reminded of stories of immortal humans from works of fiction wanting to off themselves because of the sheer boredom of living hundreds of years and such. Immortality is for the gods, human beings not so much.

I just don't share much enthusiasm as technological cornucopians do, the more technological advances that come into play seems to create even more problems. The world has enough problems without adding even more on top of them and frankly technology seems to only benefit the ruling class the most over average people. Then again I do tend to be a pessimist, cynic, and fatalist.

I'm a nature kind of guy in that I value nature more over human artifice, it's just too bad the current world we live in doesn't and I think that is a tragedy.

I think overpopulation is a myth...

The worlds population has doubled since 1970. Literally a single lifetime. There is no way the world can adapt to that.

Its been my experience that when people say things like they think overpopulation is a myth they typically have a poor grasp on population dynamics as it relates to carrying capacity and ecological resilience.

I have no interest in having a post-biological experience. Tech will not "save" us, though it might help.

Its been my experience that when people say things like they think overpopulation is a myth they typically have a poor grasp on population dynamics as it relates to carrying capacity and ecological resilience.

I have no interest in having a post-biological experience. Tech will not "save" us, though it might help.

Unlikely with natural resources peaking around the world creating eventually a global energy crisis, for big tech to advance and adapt would require massive alternative energy on a global scale.

Research what is called demographic winter and sub replacement fertility or reproduction.

While it is expected for population to grow until 2050 by then that population growth will peak and then nosedive off a cliff worldwide. I can post graphs if you like.

Stopping overbreeding is simple. Difficult as hell to pull off but very, very simple. Improve quality of life in areas with the largest population growth. Population growth tends to fall as quality of life increases. Of course, actually improving quality of life sufficiently without breaking something moderately important is liable to be more interesting but it will do the trick.

What always amazes me is that overpopulation enthusiasts almost always permeate an eugenics mindset namely the belief that there are those that should breed while all those deemed "useless eaters" shouldn't breed at all because their very existence is deemed existential pollution.

It revolves around the belief that there are those that have the right to live while denying the right to exist by others, more amusing is that a lot of these perceptions come from the modern political left that are supposedly socialist or egalitarian.

Super humans? Humanity for all its fool hearty bravado is not in control of this world, only nature and Gaia is in control of this reality despite our grand delusions of ourselves otherwise.

What is the specific carrying capacity exactly? Nobody in these conversations ever states specifics and it instead revolves around vague platitudes or emotional sentiments.

Killing and destroying random segments of a population? Yeah, that doesn't sound psychotic at all.....

Some things are just inherently insane.

Deciding that those people have to die so these people can live is one of them.

I'm hoping that those here who are a bit older will remember the horrendous "fixes" that were floated when HIV started to hit back in the 80s.

Ultimately, even if all resouces are optimized and all waste is recycled, a closed system will always end up in the red. Something is inevitably lost to entropy.

I'm not precious about my life, or anyone elses haha, I'm quite happy if we were all wiped out. I've done near death now. It doesnt scare me. I'd like to see how humanity ends up, but I'm neither optimistic or precious about it.
