Re: What Are You Thinking About?

District IT staff here (and by here, I mean the district with less money about a half hour north of me, not the one whose region I live in) get paid better than that by a frack-huge margin. I don't want to think about how much better paid our teachers are. Your district has issues.
life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

Three times, now, in the past 20 or 30 minutes, I've written up a post only to lose it in the ether. And yet I still insist on using this phone to access the site.

What is wrong with this picture?

Hmmm... I wonder how much our IT people make? I know the teacher aids get paid less than subs...

It isn't a problem with the district, exactly - it's a problem with the state. Our current governor, Rick "The Dick" Snider has been actively destroying public education. The Republicans have a huge anti-public ed propaganda machine. When I do a Google search for "teacher pay in Michigan," the first four pages that come up are flat out lies, put out by places like the Mackinaw Center (a Republican run anti-public pro-private education thinktank - private education teachers top out at about $30,000). They take data from the richest areas of the state (Gross Point, where the mansions have ballrooms and elevators, or Farminton Hills, where the pro football players live) and claiming that they are typical of Michigan teacher pay.

Privatization is the Republican goal - public ed is being privatized, prisons are being privatized (do a bit of research on the abuses that are coming from that) and even the military is being privatized (the US hires more mercenaries currently than any nation since the time of the Condottieri. Mercenaries get paid much more than service men/women, and don't follow the same "rules of engagement").

I'm not normally a fan of socialism, but some things SHOULD be under the control of the government...

I agree - people are so distracted by the trivial and meaningless - but "exciting" - that they miss the important issues right in front of their faces.

Also a lot of people seem to forget how the feds "help" when disaster strikes. One state can't cover a major event alone, that is one reason we pay federal taxes, kind of an insurance against major weather events,or other natural problems. What is the saying? "Stand together or hang separately"

The rich stand together so that the poor and middle class all hang separately. Nobody ever wants to look at it like class warfare. The rich get richer and the middle class all become paupers. Joining our ranks because the rest of us are nay but chattel, and really don't matter. We don't even count, except as a whole, where a line can be drawn in the sand, that we can't cross, firmly planting us in cobblestone effect. Or, "wherever we fall".

Politicians, on both sides, enjoy the wealth, all the way to the bank, since their pay doesn't depend on the success or failure of chattel.

Have I mentioned, lately, that I'm a cynic? You know, just in case it doesn't show.

Finally relaxing in bed after a long day of running around during finals week with a semi-head cold. I gots a big plate o' meat, broccoli, and mashed 'taters with some warm tea on the side. Couldn't be happier.

I started playing neverwinter online again after like two years. I stopped playing before because it reminded me of my ex (who got me into it) but I'm over him and remembered that it was actually a lot of fun. They released the drow as a free to play race so I made a new character and started with that. Still sticking with control mage though since I'm most comfortable with it. I wanted to try rouge but it seems hard, maybe later.

Where's my skeleton movies and video games? I want skeletons to be the new zombies, I want to play the skeleton DLC for Call of Duty.
