Sufism has a really interesting view of Lucifer: the reason that he refused to bend knee to Adam was that he had vowed to only worship God, and could put none above God. He was cast out for refusing to obey, and is called the "perfect lover" for his absolute obedience to God for it. (That's a really awkward wording, I know, but I didn't make it up.)

I'll try not to go off on a tangent (this ain't the rant thread, after all), but the new age fluffification of angels drives me bananas. Most people are familiar with angels from the Abrahamic traditions, and what are they there? Messengers yes, but also soldiers and executioners. Uriel is the primary entity I work with, and the fluffy portrayal of him tends to be as a gentle being of light

My mother very much falls under this category. They're shiny and fluffy (ok maybe not ) and purely goooooood... she has a very black and white world view ^^

I feel like an ass, because I always say that there's no such thing as an invalid path. So I can't say she's wrong, because I'm just a squishy mortal, but is a viewpoint that's like a rock in my shoe. Not harmful, but whenever I'm reminded of it, it bothers me.
