Re: What Are You Thinking About?

There was a small flock of wild (escapees & offspring) parrots in Keyport, NJ for a long time - not sure if they're still there. I saw them once. They were conures, which are very noisy!

Howard Carter's (discoverer of Tutankhamen's tomb) gravestone is engraved with the inscription (translation) of what is known as the Wishing Cup (an early discovery from the tomb).

"May your spirit* live, may you spend millions of years, you, who love Thebes, sitting with your face to the north wind, your eyes beholding happiness

Every time I read the inscription, I tear up a wee bit.

*the word "spirit" is used on his gravestone, but the actual Egyptian word used in the inscription on the chalice is "ka", which isn't exactly a spirit...more like if you soul and your chi had a baby.

Yeah. When we bought the farm (no pun intended), there was a coop, and a roughly fenced in run. After loosing our first birds - ducks - to coons, I built up the fence, and added a roof. It was all kind of add hoc, though, and has holes. Peacocks are tough birds, and we didn't have problems for many years. But coons get pretty hungry in spring and fall. I guess they were hungry enough to fight it out.

The second coop, I built. It's much better, and has a chain link fence and solid roof to the run. Currently, we have geese in there. But the other coop & run are empty 'till I can get time and cash to do a proper job on it.

Unfortunately, the reality of nature revolves around birth and death. With eating and humping in between.

LOL - this is what I've learned as a nature-worshiping pagan...

Eh I think you've got the gist of it. ^^

Also, I didn't know you had a farm! People here are so very interesting... I also didn't know people keep geese in coops, don't they try to fly in winter?

Domestic geese, like most domestic ducks, can't fly. It's been bred out of them... For obvious reasons. But geese make good watchdogs, and can be pretty vicious. It's common for people who raise ducks to keep a goose along with them the goose tends to watch over the much smaller ducks, and protect them as if they were it's chicks.

                Hence the phrase "mother goose."

                Now you've learned suppin else.

Went to universal studios yesterday. Participated in the critter portion of their fear factor challenge and let some scorpions crawl on my head. It was fun. I don't think they for the reaction they wanted. Should have used the roaches if they wanted me to freak out.
