Did the doc tell him that he may lose a kidney? It seems unlikely, even with persistent stones. They rarely do damage, even if they are painful. Even if that's the case, it shouldn't be too big a deal if they're only removing one kidney (I mean it is, but it shouldn't require a transplant). I know that you're struggling with weight loss right now. That would likely be a factor in whether a doctor will let you donate. Google says anyone over 30 BMI is often restricted, and over 35 is often rejected flat out. Something to think about.
