I say yes. Too many animals were changed due to GMO engineering.

It's a strange question, really. On one hand, GMO is simply selective breeding just done faster.

You raise chickens to be sold for food, and they are bought from you by the pound. Therefore, you want fat, meaty chickens. You could take the time to breed the biggest, meatiest chickens you have for generations until you get the size you want, or you can just have a scientist whip you up a super meaty chicken right from the start.

On the other hand, it's creating things that shouldn't exist.

As the chicken farmer, you realize that drumsticks are where all the money is. So, you can either raise more chickens to get more drumsticks, or again, cut corners and have a scientist whip you up a batch of six legged chickens.

While the first part is just a case of accelerated selective breeding, the second is in essence created a brand new subspecies.

Its really not selective breeding done faster. For example, there is nothing we can do in selective breeding that will make plants produce pesticides, or a glow in the dark trout, etc. But with genetic engineering!!!

Or glow in the dark bunnies.

My daughter loves rats. She was fantasizing about going into the rat business, but realized there's no money to be made. I suggested she get hold of some glow-in-the-dark rats...

And we had become convinced that humans were not mainly driven by money,and would never alter animals just to gather some gold...Am I a bit of a cynic,yes indeed I am,but I am also to old to care.
