What do you sometimes pretend you understand that you really don’t?

Motherhood. I can't really understand it. I have no children even though I want them. So I do try to be understanding of my friends and my sister who do have children, even though I can't really fully know.

Truth...Kids are a joy AND sorrow and at times frustrations. BUT the Joy does have its Major reason we have them(One thing Grand kids are much easier cause they go home after a while)

Japanese ^^ If you know a language well enough to sound fluent, and can pick up enough of the conversation, it's surprisingly easy to fake it. Here's how it works...

Y; Well yeah. You see because the baby is teething my mother in law was criticising our parenting skills so I stood up to her and we ended up fighting.

Y; No, he doesn't like conflict so he just keeps quiet. I wish he'd have my back once in a while.

These days I'm much better at just asking when I don't know a word, but I get intimidated by other learners that are better than me, so when they start using big words, I'll slip back into faking comprehension!

When in your life have you been a victim of stereotyping?

I'm a female in a male-dominated science field. I can't work as hard, I can't lift as much, I don't know as much, I can't be trusted with information from clients. (though, admittedly, it IS getting better with time. But when I started out ten years ago, it was awful.)

Currently? I have dreads, AND I'm from BC. That MUST mean I smoke pot all the time (I don't), I listen to reggae music, I've been to Shambala, and I'm probably an environmental rights activist, or a feminist, or worse, a vegan. Seriously, the judgements people pass because of my hair is insane.

My father. Mom is craaazy. But I'm not particularly close to either as he lives with her and I don't want anything to do with her.

Growing up I was closer to my dad. My mum wasn't good at showing affection so it was always my dad I'd go to with pictures I'd drawn or songs I'd written. He'd compliment my work and sound like he meant it. My mum wasn't good at encouraging us like that. She's only hugged me once since I was a baby, and that was when I was leaving for uni. She can only tell me she loves me in a card, but I know she does. It's just hard for her to show affection.

These days, I'm closer to my mum. I only see my dad once every few months. My sister calls him several times a week. Usually with some kind of drama. If I call him though, it's just to arrange where to meet. In a freakishly Freudian way, JP is a lot like my dad. They get on very well luckily. Similar people often dislike one another.

Which parent are/were you closer to, and why?

I was a Daddy's girl growing up. My sister and I did a lot with him. It's not that we didn't love our mother or she didn't do things with us. She was overweight when we were younger and didn't do a lot of activities like trick-or-treating. So we spent a lot of time with our dad. Now that I am older I do spend a little more time with her, but I'm still a Daddy's girl.

My mother if it's just me and mum. My father if it's just me and dad. When more than 2 people in my family get together it's chaos so not sure...
